I finally shot the 416 Rigby. I think it was fun.....

Do y'all use Talley QDs or screws? Currently it's got QDs.

Funny thing was I was working up a 340 Wby load so I brought 4 rifles to allow for cooling between groups. Went from 416 to 22-250. No flinching, intact forehead skin!!!

congratulations. Taking three or four rifles of varying "whomp" factor is the best way (imho) to test anything that kicks a wee bit. Another option you might consider is take a buddy along and have him load the rifle for you. A couple dummy rounds mixed in does wonderful things for your concentration. Besides that, you never want to look like a dork in company...so you suck it up and really, really focus.

Congratulations again, grat choice in a DGR rifle. Talley QD's.

When I'm working up loads for my 416 Rigby and really hunkered down on the stock I like to use the Caldwell Lead Sled rest. I'm a wimp. However, I have no scars across my eyebrows either.

It made the 340 Wby 250gr loads seem like shooting a 270.......

QD Talley's, back up peep.

I only shot my 416 six times before it got sent to the smith for a makeover and fine tuning.

When it comes back, lead sled for load development and dialing it in, then nothing but field positions for practice, practice, practice. Then hopefully off to Africa next year.

My Rigby has Talley detachable non-lever rings. I carry tools along in case the scope needs to come off, but no DG involved, at least not on purpose.
