What are the best 500 grain lead cast bullets available over the counter for my Lott? By "best", I mean cheapest and consistant. I'm trying to cut my cost on reloads and still get a callous(?) on my shoulder. Thanks Jerry

The RCBS 500gr GC has been VERY accurate in my .458 Winchester. I cast my own, but they are available from a couple com. casters. You might try www.creeker.net. Lynn is a great guy and casts some pretty bullets. I have tried a dozen different cast bullets in my .458. Most are awful. The 500gr RCBS shoots into one hole at 50yds and into 1.5" at 100yds. It has a long bearing surface, five lube grooves, and good diameter. Use the largest diam. that will fit. I use .460 bullets with a .459 bore. The nose has a flat point (good for hunting) and a tapered ogive (for better down-range balistics).

I've tried the Lyman #457193 420 grain, the Lyman 457658 492 grain and the Lyman 457125 520 grain in my Ruger #1, at about 1600fps & 1900fps. None grouped very well. I haven't experimented with many different loads but I'm not encouraged. Will probably use cheap Remington 405 grain soft points from Midway for plinking from now on. "Hog Killer" cast these bullets for me. I'm sure he'll chime in but I don't think his experience was any better using his Remington 30-S Lott with a Shilen barrel.
