Hey guys, i was on greybeard outdoors forum today and saw a post about this cartridge. Supposedly it shoots a 3600 grain bullet at 2200 fps. That adds up to 795 ft/lbs of recoil energy. and 45fps in recoil velocity and thats using a 25 lb gun weight as an example. just curious would any of you guys even consider shootin something like this. I think id grab a couple beers and some chips and sit back and watch, it would prolly be pretty entertaining.

Well that's the 950 JDJ which J.D. Jones made at his Disneyland for whacky Dander Gonnes - SSK Industries. The gun weighs 80 lbs and has a brake the size of a tomato juice can on the end. And yet J.D. explained to me that the recoill was still (severe). I'd like to see it go off too!

I've shot it. JD had a 48lb. rifle built on a McBros. .50BMG action (24lb. muzzle brake, 24lb. rifle!).

It laid waste to a piece of sandstone. BOOM

George I think that woudd have been the 750 JDJ on that action at 48 lbs. But you would know better. (They look the same just different sizes)

Macifej,

It was definitely the .950JDJ. JD showed me both rifles but figured the .950 would be more "fun" to shoot.

Recoil was non-existent, as the muzzle brake not only vented the gases it doubled the weight of the rifle.

The rifle wasn't as scary as the ammunition. That 20mm-based round were awe-inspiring!
It's the second and third from the left in this photo:

Yes I have a rack of the brass here. J.D said one of the challenges was getting the case to obturate since the "thin" area of the parent case was lopped off. Apparently they had to counter bore the newly formed brass! THAT'S a little tricky I'd say. I wonder what he was talking about that was "severe" reacoil wise. I must have been thinking about another rifle. Anyway very cool stuff he makes up there.

Reason recoil was small is they shortened
case and lost half the powder capacity .Here
is way it was done 40 years ago by Bob Snapp
for 5000 fps bullets for an
armor testing company. 20mm full length necked to 50cal.Ed

I have a 100lb .700RLG HEAVY GUN. Switch barrel .50BMG Unlimitred class rifle. Shoots 2000gr bore riders at 2000fps or so. Recoil is about the same as a .308 Rem bolt gun. Weight really softens recoil! The .50BMg Unlimited gun's recoil is the same as a good .22lr. Moves 1 inch on the bags. In a 24 lb gun that level of recoil will loosen a retina or two.-Rob
