Ray, Why do you state that 4X scopes are the limit for the 416 Rigby? Loaded with 350 gr bullets and this rifle has the ballistics of a 30-06. Loaded with 325 or 300 gr bullets and the ballistics will match a 300 Win mag. These rifles ('06 and 300 Winnie) are all typically topped off with much more powerful optics than 4X, or even 3X-9X for that matter. By the way, my scope is usually set at 5X. Scott

I've shot my .416 Rigby Ruger 77 out to 300 yards using a Leupold VXIII 1.5-5x. It has all the power you will ever need in any conceivable hunting situation and enough FOV for any urgent situation. Plus, if you put it on with Warne QD rings, it will come off in a heart-beat and hold complete zero when you put it back on should you wish to use irons. You also will not need any offset rings. Low light you ask? At 1.5X this scope will deliver more light to your eye than your eye can use. Given that the human eye can only dilate 7mm at most, for the exit pupil of the scope to deliver all the light to you that you can use it (EP) needs to be 7mm. To achieve 7mm of EP the scope will deliver all the light you can use up to 2.8 power.

I am told the Leupold Vari-X III in 1.75-6x32E will fit nicely. This is what I have asked for as a Christmas present. I plan to mount it with Warne QD rings. It will not require off-set rings.

Zeiss Conquest 3X9 in high Ruger rings modified for quick release. I have shot literally hundreds of rounds through this rifle with no issues. I am completely satisfied with this rig and use it for heavy plains game and elk. BTW, this rifle has already claimed one Burris 3X9 and a Leupold VarIII 4.5X14 (it was readily available).
