I just picked up one of these little scopes (used) and would like to put in on my 375 in place of the fixed 3x I already have on it. Any opinions on the sturdiness of the compact version, versus the Vari-X II? Thanks in advance,

I happen to have the same scope on my 338. I have always thought the 2-7 was so much more useful than a 3-9 for medium bore rifles. Leupold makes a great product. I have no doubts in the durability of all of their products. I have had no problem with the 1.5-5, 1.75-6, 2-7, and 3-9 leupolds I have owned. Switch it out, -Catter ------------------

I don't think there's any problem with the durability of the Compact, the problem on your .375 is that the eye relief is not as generous as with the standard Leupold. However, if the eye relief suits you okay, then it should be fine.

Canuck, I have a 2-7 Vari X11 on my CZ .416 Rigby and after 50 rounds (I know it is not many) it is going well and has plenty of eye releif for me. My mate also has one on his cz .416 and he also has not had any dramas after around 80 shots. I think these scopes to suit the .416 and .375's as they ghave decent eye releif good field of view on 2x and have enough magnification to accomadate the reasonably flat trajectory of both the .375 and .416. My experience with them is the same as Stonecreek described in that the eye relief seems a little close for me. In fact I have one mounted on a 3006 and used extended rings to get the proper eye relief. I would not be inclined to use this scope on anything above 338 because I don't need anymore cresent scares. Leupolds are very good scopes and I have several 1.5X5 VIII mounted on 416's and 458. If you're OK with the eye relief then the scope is fine.

Not a chance Ray! That 3x is a fantastic scope. I am only thinking of switching because the deal came along, and because I figure a 2-7x might be better in RSA as I plan to carry this gun for everything. As soon as I get home the 3x is going back on! Canuck

Chris, I think you'll like the 2-7 so much it'll stay. Got a 2-7X33 on my 375, it is the std model and it is a great scope. Gobs of eye relief, never smacked me yet. A bloke here in town wants it for his 9.3X62 and he'll swop me out a 6.5-20X40 Vari-X III (VERY swish bit of glass) with a cash adjustment from my side. I'm a bit conflicted, but I have a 3-9X40 I can use in the 2-7's place. Look forward to seeing you guys in May Cheers Pete
