I have a friend, a fellow Norwegian, working at Purdey gun makers in London. We spent a day loking at the goun making process, and drooling at increadibly expensive fine guns. Here are some pic's for those interested.
Demonstration of chiseling and engraving. Everything done by hand, as it was done hundreds of years ago

Stock. Purdey use one quality: the best...

My friend with a beauty. Shotgun in 410.... at the price of a house...

Me with my favourite gun: A historic double with royal connection in cal 400. Pop up peep sigth, and balanced like a ballerina. *Sigh*

Here with a calibre 10 elefant gun, in the historic Long Room, where the Normandie landing was planned

Same gun (NOT LOADED) seen from the business end

I hopw this is the right forum for this thread, if not, I hope the moderators will move it.

Purdeys are like Bugattis, and slim and stacked Red heads, not for everyone, but we all dream about them!

Have it packed.... yeah..... costs about 200000usd for the fine ones, this 10 bore is not for sale though. And if it was, it would be MUCH more than that!!! Me, I would rather buy a decent functional double, and spend the money on hunting the big 5, if I had that kind of money.... which I dont... But I am happy, it is summer and the sun is shining Smiler. Dont need no gun like that to feel good!

Hope you enjoyed yourself. cheers

ps ...something does need to be done about that $10 recoil pad and whiteline spacer.

j.a.norwegain,

Great pics! Thanks for posting. Always fun to look at things I can't possibly afford Smiler

Did you get a chance to examine any of Purdey's bolt action rifles? I'd be curious to know what they are producing in this arena.

You friend is one lucky guy! I wish I could fondle Purdey shotguns and rifles as a part of my job.

I for one would love to see more pictures of any part of their gunmaking process or Purdey's shop in general...if you've got them. Smiler

Regards,
Dave

Personally I would be afraid I may go a bit crazy one day and try to stuff a few doubles in my backpack. Kind of like working in a bank but worse!
