FWIW, I've seen and handled the exact M98 Schuler mag 585 Nyati pictuered in the article and am in the process of building such a mag box for the 500 jeffery/AHR. It's really a pretty neat design.-Rob

hmm, I've often wondered if....

one could do a 2.5" nyati, with the rigby head, and do it EASY in a mauser?

to match 577 nitro ballistics, 20" barrel... higher pressure, of course, but i doubt 45k.

still a fat round

I remember that year Eric Gold had Ross(s) 602 action rifle at the ACG show in Reno... I was just a boy and it was one of my first real show. I kept bugging Eric if he thought Ross was going to show up at the show, he didnt at least, while I was there. Well at the end of my stay I was going to go down stairs to the lobby of my hotel to kill some time, I ran down the hall as a man was getting into the elevator when I got in and turned to look at who held the door... It was Ross!! Boy was I shaking! He was checking out and we got to talking, he showed me negitives of his #13 475revolver he was going to do for G&A. It was a real treat for a young boy, like many I starved for his articals. And thats how first met Ross, he is a true gentleman and has always listened when I have bugged him.

What year was that article... I dont recall my age.

Jeffe- Without a Schuler mag, the .590 rim will result in constant bolt overrides. You can do a full length Nyati on the M98 with a Schuler. The 602 based.Nyati used the .640 Rim diameter.
I believe Davenport also opened up the M98 receiver and internally rethreaded it. He really did some nice work on that gun!-Rob

I sent this article to my smith when I had my .585 built and followed it to a tea with some instructions from Robgunbuildre as well with regards to the neck which where also followed, my rifle feeds and functions flawlessly, I even started with a BRNO 602 in .375 to keep with the orginal idea. I did however opt for a composite/stainless look as well as a muzzle break and some mercury recoil reducers. [Wink]

I would like to one day build one with no break and all the African bells and whistles in a light handy package [Eek!]

If I remember correctly, Dave at CH4D had some customers who tried the rigby head and it was not a successful proposition.
