Basically I came into a 7mag built on a FN commercial mauser that I asked about before.

Anyways, I was trying to trade it for a scope for my 375 since I had no need for a 7mag.

A guy that was interested, asked for all kinds of pics and asked all kinds of questions (thats fine, doing a deal I want both sides happy) and finally he said he didnt want to the deal for a couple of reason and he told me (after his research on my action) that I really had a really clean (almost new) H&H length FN mauser.

Now I am gonna more than likely hang onto it, since it opens up alot of choices (without alot of metal work).

Its just nice seeing honest folks nowadays.

A lesson in irony

The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free Meals and Food Stamps ever, to 46 million people.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us... "Please Do Not Feed the Animals." Their stated reason for the policy is because "The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves."

Thus ends today's lesson in irony.

There is really no difference in length between the standard magnum and the H&H length FN action.

The only difference is that the mag well of the receiver has been opened up in the front. The only modification to the bottom metal is that there is a sheet metal extension to the front of the mag box and the rear of the mag box has been milled out a bit.

The real problem with the H&H length FN, as far as converting it to something else, is that the mag box is barely wide enough for the tapered H&H case. Going to a non tapered case such as a 416 rem or a Lott is going to require a new bottom metal(or some old world gunsmithing).

Take it to 300 or 375 H&H and you will have a real winner.

Length I understand that there is no differance. From what I was told and afterwords compared to my 375H&H(VZ-24) the rails were pretty dang close and in comparison.

I'm thinking a 300H&H would be nice, if I get around to it this winter.

Jason,

not always. I have one of those commercial FN actions in a 375H&H Improved. The box is modified, as mentioned. It works fine.
