| One thing I would like to know about any of the red dot sights is, Does the reticle stay centered when adjustments are made for elevation, and windage? I've been thinking about putting one of these on a double rifle to use for Bear over bait. This is done in very poor light, if done properly, and crosshairs disapear against a black bear, in deep shadow! One reason I would use the red dot sight is, it is light, and eye relieve is not critical, so the site can be mounted ahead of the barrel breach, so as not to interfere with reloading the chambers quickly. |

| Mac considering a scope on a double? I don't visit this place for a month or two, and now one of our stallworts of traditional firearms is suggesting such a base and vulgar act. Scope equipted double rifle indeed, lay off the eggnog. |

| They do stay centered...That said I don't think they have any place on a DGR, I know I have had my flashlight run out of Battery power and that scope could do the same thing..I also found out that under many conditions that little red light is hard to find...
I will stay with the KISS principle on my DGRs.....no tricks, no gimmicks, just simple irons and and perhaps a scope. |

| Mac, the good ones do, I don't have any "DGR" experince so couldn't say about useing on one of those, the one thing I do when hunting black bear with one, is always take spare batterys and put fresh in and test before the hunt, I leave them off until needed |

| Well I'll try again, this is the thrid time I've tried to post a reply on this string, with no luck! Anyone who thinks a double rifle cannot benefit form a scope in many instances, is just plain not useing his head, no other way to say it! The difference is, on a bolt rifle, the scope is the primary sight, and the irons are an assesary, that can be used when the scope is damaged or lost! On a double rifle, the irons are the primary sight, and the scope is the acessary, only to be used when the irons are not what is needed. In most cases the scope is left off the double, but a low powered scope like the 1.3-5X20 Luepold with the optional #4 German reticle, with a lighted apex is a perfect acessary for useing something like a little 9.3X74R double in a Leopard blind, over bait, where a shot MUST be percice, and usually in very dim light. The scope can be removed quickly for the approch to the downed leopard, or a follow-up, is necessary! I have two doubles with provision for scopes, from the maker, and I wish all of the rest had this provision as well! |
