I normally shoot the Hornady 265 Flat Point bullet(reloads) in my rifle and get good performance. Isee that Speer makes a 270 gr bullet in this diameter (.429), but thats sold as a pistol bullet for the .44 mag handgun. Does anyone have any experience using this Speer bullet in a .444 marlin rifle load? Did it work or is that Speer "pistol" bullet not gonna work this way. Most of what I do is paper punch with this rifle, tho sometimes I do use it hunting on deer size game.

If you're talking about the Speer 270 "Deep Curl" that is heavy construction meant for deep penetration.That will work much better for higher velocity rifles than standard handgun construction..Others that might work well are the Swift A-frame and Barnes all copper.

Best advice is ask Speer, they don't list a Deepcurl bullet for the 444 Marlin in the rifle products, Deepcurl is only listed for the 44 mag pistol.

It should work just fine. I shoot .475 Linbough bullets in my .470 NE for practice. I have even worked out a load that seems to shoot in the same place as DG bullets. It cost a lot less and makes a great hog load. If you do everything the same as you do for your 265 gr. bullets you should be just fine. You sure won't hurt anything.

I had a .444 Marlin, but sold it back in the late '90's...great rifle, great cartridge, though my rifle preferred to digest bullets in the 300-320 gr range, though smaller grain weight bullets also worked well.

I shoot the 270 Speer Deep Curl in my 6" 629 and it is extemely accurate. I would not hesitate to use it in the Marlin-- it just may be the best bullet out there for it.
