I've had this 375 for many years, and shot it a lot, but recently had it upgraded with the McMillan stock shown. I also upgraded the scope, with one of the new Leupold VX-R firedot 2x7 30mm. I'll order the lense covers soon. It's not yet finished, but I can shoot it. It's been completely glass bedded in, with the barrel free-floated, and the stock painted. I plan on having the metal finished black, maybe, but it looks pretty good like it is. This one feels good to my shoulder, and the scope set at 2x has about all the field of view I can use, close up, and the eye relief beats anything I've used so far. Clarity is super too. I think I'm gonna like the fire dot too. I like this one. BTW, it holds four down. The follower was custom fitted by a gunsmith, and it's not original Winchester, but super smooth and allows the four down with very slick feeding. I don't know what follower he used, but I venture a guess that it's a Weatherby, cut and polished to fit properly. All I care at this time is that it works, very well. I have to agree on the caliber. Out of all of the rifles that I own, the .375 H & H has got to be my favorite.

Looks like a super everyday using rifle. What are barrel length and approximate weight? SSR

In the "right" rifle, the 375 H&H is indeed top, IMO, in the catagory of good for just about everything, especially in Alaska. I tried several bullets and loads in this rifle, and the one I settled on is the 270gr Barnes TSX, with H4350. It's very accurate. What makes the "right" rifle in this cartridge is quick to the shoulder stock, moderate weight, four down, accutate, proper scope for close work, super slick feeding, and utterly reliable. I think this is one of those type rifles. I don't offhand know the weight, but it feels real good. I like a little heft in this caliber, so I don't strive for light weight. I just pick the componants and let the weight fall where it may. The barrel was 23 inches, but it was re-crowned at the last gunsmith visit, and I haven't measured it again. I bought this rifle many years ago, when Winchester first came out with them in stainless. I didn't like the factory rifle at all. It was heavy, and the barrel was actually installed crooked. I had it checked out by a gunsmith who assured me it was the barrel and not the action that was the problem, so I had it rebarreled in the same caliber, but with a lighter contour barrel, and installed straight this time. The improvment in accuracy and handeling was noticable immediately. I wish I had not changed the trigger out, but live and learn. The Canjar on it now works fine. Anyway, after many years, it's now approaching it's final stage of improvment. I call that a "Winchester Wasilla." That's a whole lot better than a "Kimber Talkeetna."

That's a good looking bit of kit. The VX-R scopes are great! I have a 3-9x on my 260 Rem deer rifle, which stands up very well to a Zeiss Divari at dusk. In fact the cross hairs are still usable in the VX-R when the ones on the Zeiss have been lost in the gloom. Then when the dot is illuminated it's an obvious winner.
