I have paid my deposit money and the build
has commenced! My loads will be for black,
bear & a bit more power than my 58 caliber
muzzle loader. I just prefer bigger bore rifles.
Dies and brass will come from our own ED
HUBEL 458.

Correct bullet placement, combined with the required depth of bullet penetration, results in an anchored animal...

TK, my barrel is 30" no brake and the original wood stock. I'm thinking about getting one of the Boyd laminate stocks, not sure if I'd want a light synthetic but with a break it might be just fine. I'm running the 650gr Woodleighs at 2400 fps.

Yes he is doing 650gr soft jacketed at 2400,

can do 750gr softs at 2200,,

solids in both about 50-60 fps less,

Not bad for a simple break action, nice stock would be a

laminated or plastic thumbholes. With plastic of either

type, easy to weight the hollow butt, I use rubber coated

computer mouse balls, no need for a brake to deafen.Ed

I know I don't need a brake but I just love the way they look haha round brakes not the square tactical ones . I will probably have a few types of stocks so I can dress it up however depending on the mood . I am really itching to see what type of penetration the solids will get on these 4' diameter oak trees ? What ya think Ed complete pass through haha ? Nigli I had a h&r 10ga a few years ago I put one of the sporters synthetic forends on it , yeah the skinny one took a while to open the barrel channel with simple hand tools . It was actually more controllable than the factory wood forend . With the skinny plastic one I could get a better grip on the gun than the smooth large wood forend . Nilgi did you leave the barrel in the white or have it finished ? We used to have a local guy who did cerakoating but he closed down .

I too am building a .585 HE on a PH just waiting for the reamer. Ed convinced me it was a better round than the nyati. Also it will run through a ph action without altering the rails, the nyati requires widening of the feed rails may smith told me.

Yeap PC I too was looking at other odd large bore calibers and Ed convinced me to get a 585 HE . Its probably the first 585 rifle with a good source of brass .
Also I think the 585 he case itself has a lot of possibility's because I think it has more case capacity than the 408 cheytac which is a popular case for wildcatting among long range shooters . I would like a spare barrel down the road in .510-585HE those 750gr amax bullets don't need much speed . even at 900 fps they carry about 1200ft lbs at 1000 yards .

I am 100% positive that if a person wants a bolt action rifle
that fires .585" diameter bullets, the 585 HE is the very best
option of them all.

Have you thought about having iron sights installed or are you using a scope ? I though about going with a rear peep sight and have a front sight installed . and also have a scope if I want one . I would probably go for the redfield 2-7x33 . also I have seen ladder sights that fit into a 3/8 dovetail . I really like the looks of those .
