Anybody out there can advise me whether rebarreling a Win. mod. 70 in 375 H&H mag to .458 Win. Mag is economically feasable? Or would it be less expensive to sell the rifle and look for another in .458? Also, rifle would be used 90% of the time with heavy cast bullets. Should I be looking for a cut rifled bbl with deeper rifling? Thanks for the advice. Olevern

You might try the cast bullet portion of this site for info on the best type of rifleing for shooting cast. http://www.accuratereloading.com/ubbthreads/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=UBB19

Speaking as one who never uses them, if I were going to use a lot of cast lead bullets, I'd study up on paper-patching. I believe that it will be easier for you to get a mold that would work in a standard barrel than to have a specially made barrel for cast lead. Additionally, I'd bypass the .458 Win and go to a .458 Lott. The Win is only of use in 30/06 length actions. Since you already have a magnum length action in the .375, you might as well go with a magnum length .458. You can still load it down to shoot cast lead as much as you want with the added benefit that if sometime you really need a Monster Slayer, you've got it.

What's Sarge said... No reason NOT to go 458 lott... and you can load it down to 45/70... Why the lott? Because it's the same length as the 375 HH, but you already knew that... $450 bucks, right to pacnor, and they'll blue it for you too... then you can send me the 375 barrel. Oh, do you want sights? I suggest the NECG banded front sight and the 1 folding, 1 standing rears... these are EASY to install, and again, pacnor can stick em on for you The LOTT will be alot eaiser to sell, btw,,,, Jeffe
