If it is a control feed/ control extraction action with an undercut face I personally prefer Mauser 98 or CZ type inner ring "C" collar slotted only on the side of the extractor over any other.

I also prefer that both, the barrel end and the thread shoulder to be in a contact with the inner ring and the front face of the receiver.

Pyzda

Question:
Which one do you prefer?

The names of the actions are just as a guide to point out where these features exist.

Also all the other likes and dislikes of individual actions shouldn't be included in your vote. JUST THE BREECH SYSTEM.

Thanks

Choices:
Mauser/CZ type- (C inner ring) sloted on one side only
Ruger type- ftat bolt face no C inner ring
Winchester type- conned barrel no C inner ring
Mauser/Zastava type- C inner ring slotted on both sides

Ruger /Enfield type is best by far..
By far easiest to mount barrel to shoulder
and headspace it../ And most Mauser types guys build
so you can't single feed and close the bolt. Pain in the rear.

And it is a fallacy that Ruger types are weaker than Mauser
inner ring type; IE, if inner ring isn't there, there is room
extra barrel length and threads back farther there, so
radial strength isn't lost.

And with Mause actions with inner ring and bolt heads fitting
super tight into barrel recesses and inner rings, if you have
a cartridge blowout through the corner the tight fitting
tolerances just make escaping gases into a high speed, explosive
speed torch, that does more damage to actions than an
action with a little room like Ruger.

Once a case blows out through the corner,
bolts fitting tight into recesses are not one piece with the
barrel, they absolutely can not contain it.
Unless actions are 2" in diameter and bolts 1"
with a force fit into a recess 1" Deep, for 06 size.
Bigger cases would take more.Ed

with the Mauser extractor can not slip over single loaded round to me is a 2-5 minutes work on the bevel of the extractor with a Dremel and a fine tip (hard/fine abrasive grinding tip) made in China and costs about $.50c.

Just if someone asks why I use abrasive tip instead of solid carbide is that hard fine abrasive tip has less bite and can be controlled with more precision.

If the depth of the raceway is not deep enough, there is nothing that a $3-15 diamond file made in China can't do to fix this problem in 10 minutes flat.

Sometimes it can be an oversize (too thick) extractor and that can also be easy fixed with a diamond file.

Just the barrel has to come off, marked right in the receiver/barrel junction before it comes off and timmed back on precisely with a help of 10-20X magnifying glass to the exactly same spot.

Important if there is a barrel mounted recoil lug. All up from the start to the finish (from the stock to the stock) a 20-30 minutes job.

The diamond or carbide coated file works on any material.

With the strength of individual breeching systems I have no bad personal experience to tell which system is the best or the safest.

If I ever win a Lottery or become rich enough I will test them all and tell you the outcome.

I've been thinking about your "Theory of gasses squeezing through tight places" and I can see the theory may have some merrits.

It would be an interesting test if both these breech systems (Ruger type with no inner collar vs. CZ type with inner collar) were tested side by side.

A simple 2" long barrel extension made from the same steel bar (4140-4340) would be enough to see if there is any significant difference between the two breech systems.

Since I "blue pulled" a CZ 550 to 85 Kpsi, during the development of the .600 ok , I have complete faith in that action. I have never tested anything else to that extreme. -Rob

Thanks Gentleman

for casting your votes.

I had no doubt it would be neck and neck between the Mauser/CZ and the Winchester.

However I didn't expect the Mauser/Zastava C inner ring slotted on both sides configuration would score no votes.

I just wonder if I've put some of the other action names which also use the same breech configuration.

Brevex Mauser, Remington 798, Interarms Mark X. (thought the Remington and the Mark X are Zastava)

It is quiet amazing that thousands of people hunt hard and are willing to pay thousands of $$$ for a Brevex Large Mauser, but no one likes the breech system.
