A little off topic but was hoping the big bore guys might be able to help. I've found a Medallion grade Browning that I'm thinking about buying but can't find any others on-line. Looking in the standard guide books they seem unrealistically low, most Safari grade guns go for their value of the Medallion grades. It's in .458 Win. Mag., late 60's vintage, no salt wood problems apparant, short extractor (I know that's not the best). Does anyone know of others in .458 or .375 that are currently available and the prices?
Thanks

Thanks Brian, I still haven't found anything else to go by but since they are on your low end and it's got a Zeiss 1.5-4 scope I think I'll go ahead and get it. Absolutely no use for one but it sure is pretty. Reading the big bore and African boards got me thinking I might one day conceivably go to Africa and so I might as well get one now and practice with it. Maybe handload a few light loads to shoot pigs with here in Texas.

It should also be noted that you should have it well bedded before shooting it much-Brownings in all calibers have a tendancy to crack, espically in 458 and 375.I have a pair of Safari 22/250s and they both cracked.

Before buying, pull the barreled action out of the stock and check for internal cracks. Also check at the tang and trigger guard, and around the recoil lugs. Also look around for any rust or pitting-some salt guns don't break though for a lllloonnnggg time,so it always pays to be careful.I have an Olympian 270 that is a salt wood rifle. The salt didn't break through the finish for 30 years.Others broke through before they left the factory.

Jack Belk once put his finger through the floorplate of an Olympian 375 salt gun!!!
