Talked to the McMillan folks this afternoon. They said the only stock they make that would fit a magnum length CZ-550 action (416) is the "Express" model. Have any of you guys handled this stock? If so, how is the balance, etc.? Any better ideas? Thanks Wes

I would agree with R.A. Berry the only problem is that a stock from McMillan is that it maybe out of some shooters price range $357.00 is healthy for a stock and you still have to have it bedded which McMillan will do for another $226.00. We need to all call CZ and talk to Marty @ 1-913-321-1811 and tell him we want a American style Straight comb stock and I could do with out the cheek piece myself maybe others like recoil in the jaw, but maybe if we call and bug Marty we can get a option from CZ that every one can live with. good luck

I forgot to tell you guys that H-S Percision is making systhetic stocks for the 523 model and I'm sure the could make a synthetic for the 550 mag action

I talked to the guys at CZ and HS Precision at the recent NRA convention. The guy from HS Precision intimated that they were talking to CZ about a factory fiberglass stock, and that it might be out this year. How true this is may be anybody's guess. Also talked with the guy from MPI, and they can do the same thing as McMillan, but still around $600. MPI can go lightweight fiberglass/kelvar if you really want a flyweight stock.

RAB, does this stock have enough drop at the comb & heel for proper use of iron sights? Any cast off? What is the drop as measured from the line of sight for irons, or if you don't have irons, from the bore centeline? Thanks, John

McMillan can make your stock to almost any weight you want and if you have them bed it they can adjust weight, balance, etc to your wishes as long as you don't want to do anything that would weaken the stock. I've never liked the H&S stocks..I don't care for the texture and the pistol grips don't seem to fit my small hands like the Mcmillans. Just a personal observation.

John, That McMillan Express stock is American style, simple classic with a drop box magazine well. There is little drop at the heel, and no castoff. It is best with a scope, but is O.K. with the relatively high profile express sights that I have on my fat barrel. I can't give you the drop measure right now, but it suits my not-too-fat face just fine. ------------------
