I will wait for Guntech to have some time, then get him to bed it. I hate bedding Rugers, and he will do a much better job than I will.

Has it ever been determined that one can get the same performance out of a .375 Ruger handload as one gets out of .375 Ruger factory ammo? If so, what is the powerder/bullet/primer combination that does so?

I always thought you were raised in a Barn! Now we have proof!

Seriously, the rifle looks really ready for the Northwest hunting conditions, and is a nice job!

I've shot factory and handloads over the chronograph. Performance is close, with a few handloads bettering the factory velocity.

The McSwirly stock makes the rifle into such a nice handling rifle, it's hard to believe it is a .375. Feels more like a LW .308, especially once the scope is removed.

That, is a good looking rifle.

It's the 20" barrel version correct?

Yes, Canuck, it sure does look like the New King of the .375's

it's the "classic" the hunter model is a mont carlo type stock.

The other day I was pleased to find my .375 Ruger in arrive in the mail. I bought a McSwirly stock for it and after about 5 months, it showed up. Without shooting it, I sent it directly to Guntech, who did a great bedding job on it for me...

Here it is with the 1.5-5x20 Vari X III installed (pre bedding)




I had a free day today, so I packed up some gear and went to the range. It was pretty darn windy, and gusting frequently, but I was already there, so what the hell...



I popped the 2.5-8x36 Vari X III off my Ruger 7mm Rem Mag, and popped it on the 375 for now.



Primary task today was to work up a load for my upcoming grizzly bear hunt, using the 270gr TSX bullet, but first I had to rezero the rifle, so I bore sighted it then got it on paper at 25 then 100....

I started a load work up, starting at 79gr of H4350 and going to 83.5gr

(Top left group)



Once again, working up a load with TSX bullets was a pleasure. 6 different powder charges went into a group just over 1.5" at 100 yards.

I figured I would try a group with the max reccomended charge of 83.5gr, which gave me a .60 group with an average velocity of 2730fps.

Hunting load was done

Next I wanted a practice load, so I chose the 270gr Hornady Interlock

Working up from 78gr H 4350 to 82.5, the group was opening up at 82.5 and so I backed down and took another shot with 81gr, which cut the first 81gr bullet hole, so I figured I was close enough there, too..



I briefly thought about dicking around with it for better accuracy, but decided against it. All I am going to do with that load is shoot milk jugs and bang 8" gongs from 25 yards out to 400 yards with it, I don't care if they all land in the same hole.

I tried out the 260gr Accubond load that had shot so well when the Hogue Stock was installed, and it did pretty much a repeat performance of the original groups:




I had some Hornady RN 300gr Bullets, but it was getting late and I'd ended up shooting about 45 rounds from the .375 so my shoulder was starting to ache a bit and I dont' even know what I'd use the RN for, anyway... I think they were left over from my previous .375 or maybe my buddys .375 I used to load for...

I hope to try out some 300gr Accubonds when they become available, I bet they shoot Cruise Misslies and would be great moose medicine out from close up to way out there..:cheers:

270 gr TSX at 2730 should be great for everything and grizzly. Please post about your grizzly hunt goes and how the TSX load worked. I tryed the 270 tsx on a small deer and had expantion, So I'm interested to see how it performs on what this caliber and bullet are meant for.

You had good expansion on deer? What range?

I started a thread in the African hunting about TSX expansion..I've used them in 223, 7mm, .308 and had spectacular expansion.

well, I wasn't able to find the bullet, but it went pencil size hole in and silver dollar size hole out through about 5-6" of deer. It was close range though. The distance was about 20 yards if that. I loaded them to estimated 2700 fps in the 375 h&h I had.

Nice and proper, as Ruger should be selling them IMO.

Nice rifle! I noticed you were having good luck w/ 4350...

I have been very impressed with both RL-15 and Varget in my 375 Alaskan. 73 gr's of RL-15 under a 260 gr NAB is sub MOA in my rifle...reasonable recoil...

I also took off the rear v notch and have been using a NEG peep sight at the rear scope mount...very sweet set up and much more accurate than the v-notch.

I haven't tried RL-15 or Varget yet, but there is no reason why they shouldn't work well...I'm not a fan of most factory iron sights, but I like the one on the Ruger. I have been looking for an excuse to get one of those peep sights after years of reading their "REV UP YOUR RUGER" ads in Handloader magazine

Maybe it's time to try it out. Where did you order yours from?

RL 15 has been working well in my African 375 Ruger.

Brownells will ship them to Canada...Midway won't...I like them myself..
