frank4570Opinions .50 Beowulf, .458 Socom.
I have a feeling I may be restarting an old war here, that is not my intention.
I have been looking at both of these cartridges. I started just looking for a fat slow round for fun. Then came across these two rounds, and since I have been thinking about an AR-15 anyway, this would make a lot of sense.
I have done a lot of reading in the archives about the two rounds and I can't see a clear choice between the two. I really like the idea of the .50 caliber, but the 458 seems to make a lot of sense.
So currently what I am looking at is a semi-auto that throws big lead, for fun,and hunting deer and pig.Maybe northern critters later.I would prefer to keep the recoil down a bit, I will most certainly load my own.
Accuracy is important.
Thanks.

N E 450 No2I would go with the 458 SOCOM simply because of the availability and selection of .458 bullets.

500grainsMy opinion is that you do not get enough extra power out of the 50 beo to make it worth the hassle, thus I would go with the 458 socom.
