It is a wonderful round. My Steyr loves 270 grain Failsafes over BL-C2 powder. Varget would be the powder to use if your plans include Africa. The 260 grain Partition, or 250 grain A-Frames are also good to go. Recoil is mild, and the round feeds like a (wet) dream. The Hornady brass is top shelf stuff. Avoid the Hornady dies. I have RCBS, Redding would be great also. CDNN Investments: www.cdnninvestments.com has Hornady factory ammo for $23.99 per box of 20. That is good plinking ammunition. There is nothing wrong, and a whole lot right, about this round. Enjoy. JCN

Not yet but my gunsmith just finished mine built on a Mexican Mauser with PakNor bbl. He's (Z-hat) started on a 416 Agaard last week, and like Jeffeoso, I'll do a 338/376 after that. BTW Jeffe, I found another Mexican receiver last week so am ready to start the 338/376 when you are.

Took my .376 Steyr Scout with 300-grain Woodleigh SP Protected Point handloads at 2320 fps to Africa in 2002, and it killed everything with great authority up to waterbuck and eland. Never noticed the recoil in the 8-pound Scout. My PH initially kidded me about bringing a "toy rifle" to Africa, but after a series of one-shot kills that put the animal down in its tracks or with short runs, there were no more jokes. And after he fired it, he agreed that it recoiled a lot less than his longer and heavier .375 H&H. That said, I took a Blaser R93 in 9.3x62 with 286-grain Nosler Partition handloads at 2350 fps to Africa in 2004, and it seemed to kill with equal authority, and also with relatively low recoil. Practically speaking, I don't think there's much difference between the two, if anything. I am intrigued by the .416 Aagaard from Z-Hat (.376 Steyr necked up). If it has the same relatively low recoil for caliber/velocity as the .376 Steyr, it would be quite the all-around performer, I think.
