" If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand which feeds you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countryman " Samuel Adams, 1772

Thanks for posting that 465H&H! I was very disappointed to find out that that "399" does not refer to the caliber of the rifle but to the price of a Howa in a Weatherby caliber. Thanks for posting that so I did not have to. .398 LAPUA MAG. dies are on order from Redding (only $165 per high quality set). You can turn ".338 LAPUA MAG." brass into ".398 LAPUA MAG." brass just by using an engraving tool to turn a "3" into a "9" by completing the circle at the top half of the second "3" in ".338" and then run the brass through the FL size die from Redding. Voila! .398 LAPUA MAG. perfect brass! Best available! Reckon Weatherby has heard about the ressurgence of the .395 here at accuratereloading.com?

The 398 Lapua now that's an interesting round.. RIP upstaged by Weatherby, well not yet anyway.. _____________________________________________________ A 9mm may expand to a larger diameter, but a 45 ain't going to shrink Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened. - Winston Churchill

Upstaged? I think not. Sounds like it's the other way around. Weatherby has come in second in the race for the 395; just another dog following the pack leader. I am sure the Weatherby will be another if its sub 400 pleasant-to-shoot mild loads. Undoubtedly trying to bring their 378 Marquis de Sade round back to life in the form of a new Franken-cartridge. Orthopedic surgeons and opthamologists across the USA will be busy picking out the color of their new Mercedes when word of Weatherby's latest and greatest spreads. Warm up the wooden and water erector set beast!!! I smell a side by side comparison in the air. SCI Life Member DSC Life Member

jwp475, Ah! You understand, being the .338 LAPUA MAG. afficianado that you are! ALF pontificated here once upon a time that the 9.3/.338 LAPUA MAG. would be the ultimate in efficiency. Cool, but still a bit too small for hunting authority! The .395/.338 LAPUA MAG was the first .395-caliber gleam in my eye. It sat on the back burner while other .395 wildcats got made, but it was the actual inspiration for all this .395 madness. I have rifles in .300 Lapua, .338 Lapua, .375 Lapua, .395 Lapua, .423 Lapua, and .458 Lapua. They had all been done before except for the full length .423/.338 Lapua and .395/.338 LAPUA MAG., now called the ".398 LAPUA MAG." for headstamp simplicity. Dakota muddied my Lapua waters by coming out with a 2.5" short Lapua in .423 caliber. The .423/.338 LAPUA MAG. is no better than the 404 Jeffery, and the shortie .423 Dakota-Lapua is inferior to the .404 Jeffery. The .398 LAPUA MAG. is unique. Thanks for noticing.

Well RIP, you can rest easier. It appears that the "399 weatherby" reference is part of their promo to sell Weatherbys for $399. The company appears to have turned away from its previous mission of making quality hunting rifles to trying to out-Remington Remington. Never thought I'd see the day of the "Chinese Weatherby"...
