Poll- Favorite muzzle velocity- softpoints in Heavy Gun
Gents what is your favorite velocity range for any type of softpoint, deforming bullet in your 'heavy' gun? That is the biggest one in your arsenal you handle well. For the purpose of hitting the biggest game you have hunted( or would like to hunt, hypothetical favorites welcomed).Favorite Velocity- Heavy Gun SoftpointsSub-2000fps2000-2250fps, Nitro XP/Double gun Vel2300-2450fps Fast Nitro/heavy bolt gun Vel2450-2700fps Medium bore speeds2700fp+ High velocitiesI use two or more velocity ranges in my heaviest rifle

375s - 2400 to 2750 fps depending on bullet wt.

40s - 2300 to 2500 fps depending on bullet wt.

458s - 2100 to 2400 fps depending on bullet wt.

Have not used anything over 458....

As long as your bullet and shoulder are up to it. Any more than a 570g bullet at 2400 fps and my shoulder says Uncle!

Maximum velocity, of course. 2600-2700fps loaded retains 2400-2100 fps at 100-200yards.

However if I ever used SP it was .458/500gr Hornady RNSP and with this bullet anything above 2300 fps. impact velocity on buffs is far too fast.
