I got my upper today from Teppo Jutsu. Fantastic work! Now to scrounge up some ammo for the beast.

What is Teppo Jutsu and what kind of upper is this? Are we talking a .458 in an AR-15?

Roger that. Go to Tromix and check it out. The 458 is on a proprietary case that single-stacks in ordinary M-16 magazines; just change the follower. I can't see it now but I thought they were working on a Beowolf, to.

Teppo Jutsu is the company owned by Marty TW, who developed the .458 SOCOM cartridge. More info on the cartridge is available on the Teppo Jutsu website. The .458 is a real monster. The worksmanship on the upper is superb.

You don't even need to change the follower on the .458 SOCOM. All of my mags work just fine with nothing done to them at all. My upper is Tony's and I absolutely love it to death. My 300 gr. X load is sub MOA so I am very well pleased with it. Now to work up a hot-rod 250 gr. X load and a 500 gr. sub-sonic load. Nothing like a semi-automatic .45-70! One odd thing did occur during load workup. I found that using any crimp at all was detrimental to good groups. No crimp at all per Monty made the upper scream, and while recoil is noticeable, it is not enough to unseat the bullets if you have good neck tension. By the way, Starline is offering the .458 SOCOM brass for public purchase. No more group buys to fool with. I know Ed will be pleased with that!
The .50 Beowulf is made by Alexander Arms and from most reports, the accuracy has not been as good as they thought it would be. Their .50 B headspacing on the mouth is what sent me over the the .458 SOCOM. I like the .458 SOCOM much better as there are many more bullets availble for it and it headspaces on the shoulder. Also, it is living up to their accuracy claims.

How reliable are these in 50 AE, and what has to be done to get the mags to work?

I have no first-hand knowledge, but I do know if Marty or Tony makes it, it WILL work. Here is a LINK to Tony's web page talking about the AR-15 in .50 AE.
Also here is a link to Marty's page, but he does not list the .50 AE.

The 458 upper has been on my want list for a while. After listening to a first hand user, it just went up a few notches. Thanks, BB.

I'm with you Tigertate. This has been on my radar for a bit but other projects keep getting in the way! In six months or so it might be a reality.
