Clarke,

That's a Searcy in .470NE.

Noble knights of the DRSS round table. In all seriousness if you guys would like to put together something for this summer lets talk.

This is a GREAT hog lease I can only hunt it during the off season January to Spetember. But I get the whole ranch basically to myself. All 169,000 acres!

A tented safari would be thumb WAY COOL!!

Lets do this thing!

Greg Allyn

Rusty PM me or send an E-mail we'll hammer out the details.

Unfortunately, I was unable to "hide" the good stuff but the 2 week old J&B is still waiting for you! But not to worry after you consume the two week old J&B I am sure we can find some good stuff!...hopefully, it will last until you arrive in Tanzania!!!

surestrike:

That certainly would be a fun trip. If it works out I would sure like to attend!

That sounds like a great idea, just do not plan it in June as I will be gone most of the month on a "road trip" and bear hunt.

Clark, tell Butch to hurry up on your dads 577 Nitro. Big Grin

Ron,

the answer to your question:

I've heard the saying "That won't happen until the day when pigs can fly", and it looks like Tony was lucky enough to hit one of those unusual flying pigs:

Well done Tony! Not many men could pull that shot off! Wink Big Grin

I have a kodiak double could bring along a 600OK trash bolt rifle and could even do taxidermy on the largest pig for an invite.

Grasshopper,

This special ability is only taught to the highpriests of the DRSS. After long meditation, they can actually feel where the pray is, using other senses than sight. It is only for the very advanced, and is very secret. One day, you too might reach this level. Wink Big Grin

There are no flies on a kodiak double, it is a well made rifle.
I can imagine the 600 OK would also be good for the HIGH Fliers. Just bring plenty of ammo. Big Grin

Well fellows, looks like I missed a good get together! I hate that, especially because there were so many new guys there to meet! You guys had some fun on that trip, and I certainly wish Judge G and I could have made it!

My mother died on April first, and I had to drive to El Paso 648 miles west, then on the morning of April fith, while at the airport picking up one of my sons, recieved a cell phone call thet my Mother in law passed, in Baton Rouge, LA 1300 miles the other way. I just got home April 24th.

Come hell or high water I'll make the next one, however, unless I die nut

I think the tent safari is a very good idea, and I'm in! Let me know the costs involved!

Great pictures, by the way!

Butch hopes it have the .577 done by the first of the year. HOPEFULLY we will get our engraving ideas out to Butch next week so everything will be finalized.

For the next DRSS shoot after January 06, the .577 WILL be in camp, even if my old man can't make it....I'll bring that Howitzer.

Brave and temperature resistant hunters of DRSS. We can do a midsummers hunt the hog hunting is great in the heat. But be aware that a tent hunt in midsummer may be a touch rugged if you know what I speak.

Nothing for a bunch of high steping African hands however. Onward to the huting grounds!! Big Grin

I believe that this qualifies as an understatement. I am surprised that the hogs do not go north for the summer. On the plus side, the rattlesnake hunting should be quite good!

surestrike is correct, it is really HOT in Texas in the summer. Surely there is a good Motel in Paducah, with refridgerated air.
Nor to mention "store bought meals".
How far from town is your lease?

When you shoot a pig in the summer you need to get in on ice ASAP.

N E 450, is right. Pigs in summer heat will start to bloat in an hour. Flys are another problem, they will start laying eggs just as fast. If you have several dead ones to clean and only one cleaning station, the best thing to do if possible is to place them in a water trough. Cools them down some and keeps the flys off too.

Being forced to hunt during the high heat months I've developed several ways to counter meat loss. As soon as I kill the dreaded beast I take the hind quaters and back straps and pplace them on ice. The front quarters and ribs generally have a .475 hole through them and are left in an advantages spot for a coyote bait.

There is a motel in Paducah but it's not very "nice". I stay in my 28' trailer with refridgerated air. But gentlemen we will overcome and hogs will fall to the multiple barrels of the DRSS... Cool

I take it that you have not been to Paducah?

That whole area of the state has some great country, with large ranches and some excellent hunting. It is not very developed, and even some county seats are very lacking in amenities compared to South Texas or other parts of the state. However, if I recall correctly stopping for lunch in Paducah going from the Childress area to Guthrie one day, it has Guthrie all beat for amenities.

The sad thing is that the famililes are breaking up the larger ranches and selling out, and people like us are buying them up for recreation, which has doubled or tripled the price/acre and will definitely put lots more pressure on the wildlife which generally needs more acreage than in other areas to florish.

That said, I really like it out there and looked hard at several places with a view to buying one.

When Jim, Dave and I looked at the pig I shot on the DRSS hunt we were worried as the pig had little fat. The meat looked OK when I gutted him, just not as much fat as I am used to. However, I ate some of the meat at my deer lease, and my wife and I just had some of the loin floured and fried in olive oil and it was good. Luckly I did not hit the heart, so ir is in the freezer, waiting for the skillet. Big Grin
Wild pig meat is some of the best eating around.

Just say when.

I wish these damn pigs around here would show up in the day light. I could get in some good practice with that one holer I've got.
