Hi, and sorry for this question that undoubtly is dumb... I have seen in other thread that Atkinson recommends the fixed Leupold 2.5 in calibres like the Lott. Which one would that be? Bearbasin.com list one called FX ultralight with wide or heavy duplex reticle and 4.9 inch eye relief, and one called scout with duplex reticle and 9.3 inch eye relief. Which one will be best on my BRNO 602? And, anyone know where I can get Talley QR mounts? Thanks

It looks like Leupold is now calling it the FX Ultralight. You do NOT want the Scout scope-- it's for mounting far out on the barrel. (As an aside, I like Scout scopes-- for certain applications.)

Order the mounts directly from Talley.

I have a Leupold M8 compact 4x on my Ruger #1 .458 Lott with 4.9" eye relief, only problem I have encountered is not being able to get the scope back enough even with Ruger offset rings, the 4.9" eye relief does let you worry about other things beside getting belted in the face with a scope that doesn't have enough relief.

The 2.5x compact leupold works well on the .458 lott that is what I have on mine in warne qd's.

The scope can handle some recoil for sure !!

I have the warne QD mounts, but I have read ab shooters who have had the base on the rifle destroyed from the warne mount. Apparently something to do with them being made from cast metal (?). I don't want to risk that. Has the warne sounts worked out OK for you PC? Would you recommend them?

I have seen Warnes come apart in severely recoiling rifles, and the levers will certainly jump around..

I almost bought the farm with a set of Warnes that the levers jumped, due to recoil, and blocked the uplift of my bolt on a buffalo charge...

I always used low bases and rings and you cannot mount them on the off bolt side of a Mauser as the bolt release is in the way....

I switched to Talleys after several problems with Warnes...I also like the original Kimbers or the old Brownell QDs as they let you see the iron sights over the bases...

The only scope I will use on a 458 Lott and up is the Leupold 2.5 Compact, I have always, sooner or later, trashed most other scopes on those heavy recoiling rifles, including the high dollar ones.

Those big guns are hard on scopes and mounts, and actually if one can shoot a peep or iron sight, I think that is the better route..You seldom shoot those big guns past 100 yards.

I have observed that most folks who claim thier good scope has never been a problem on their 458 Lott or 505 Gibbs is because it mostly sits in the gun cabinet...

Also keep in mind that a muzzle brake is death and destruction on the scope in a big bore caliber as recoil is directed in both directions and scopes cannot take that...

The 2.5 Compact due to its construction with adjustments in the center of the scope under the turrets seems to make the difference..

I have had no dramas with warne mounts on;

.458 lott
.416 Rigby
45/70
9.3x62

I also used warnes on my .585 Nyati for around 50 shots before getting some qd talley's, those mounts are now on my .416 Rigby. My friend uses warne's on his .585 Nyati and probably has 200-250 shots down the tube, the rear recoil luge fits perefectly in the lug recess where as the talley's don't fit as well but they are a nicer looking mount given !!

The 2.5X is the "standard" for long life on the Lott. I have used a Leup 1.5-5 on 2 diff Lotts and so far so good (200+rnds). I really like the 1.5-5 and I hope it survives many more Lott rounds.

For the ZKK602 or CZ550 Lott I would use old-style Warnes with a straight tube Leupold 2.5x or 3x.

I bought a FX11 featherweight fixed 2.5 with Talley QD for my Lott. David Christman said it would be a nice combo. Butch
