Well, Tip Burns got my gun today -- and... well, the action seems fine, but the stock could have problems -- has a couple small cracks, and some WESCOG bedding issues, which may, or may not, be repairable... (Well, it is repairable, but it's a matter of economic efficiency.)

The wood has a pretty open grain, and isn't anything special, but I liked the shape, and the light weight of it.

If I do have to replace it, to have it duplicated and checkered would run... ~1K? Maybe another $300 for an acceptable blank?

Does accurate innovations make a stock that would fit?

I'd prefer to avoid synthetic if possible.
I already have a Ruger Alaskan to be my ugly rifle, and while I realize a Mark X is not a fine gun, I'd rather have it look somewhat pretty.

1. Try to buy a Whitworth stock on the classifieds here.

2. Buy a Mark X stock on the classifieds here from someone who traded for a Whitworth stock.

3. McMillan makes a Mark X stock if you are willing to go synthetic.

If you like the stock you have I would drop the grand on getting one made like it.

.....Have you looked at Boyd,s stocks ....I really like the one on my 9.3 ....It,s the JRS laminated..................I never thot I would like the JRS design but with the correct lop for me it is great ,,,It has a lower comb than I thot it would and I will be able to use the express sights well with it ..... ....This is a mark X action ., the stock was a 98 Mauser inletted prefit ....My gunsmith had to do some work to it as far as bedding the bottom metal and cutting the bolt notch .,,,........He also had to slim the fore end for me a little as I have short fingers .......He full length bedded the action and barrel , tang to tip ,. and installed the pad ... But it is a very nice stock to shoot and I really like it .... I think it looks nice also ....JMHO.............My gunsmith is Mark Moffit his # is 907-745-3906 ..........The total cost was less than half the grand you were thinking .......

.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

Tip called, it can be repaired, so WHOOP! Still need to have a "pretty gun" some day, but I can wait a bit longer now.
