Hi, Tried to search but found fairly little regarding the Remington ABG rifle. I came across one that has been lying in the gunshop for more than a year now, and the dealer made me a fair offer. Still, the price seems out of proportion in comparison to what impression one gets when handling the rifle. I'd like to hear about people's experiences. No comments needed on push feed v. controlled feed; nor on the Remington extractor... The rifle is chambered in .416 Remington Magnum. Some of my observations: I had a hard time telling whether it had a magazine box or a magazine, as I found the release but was not able to pull out what looked like the magazine. The plastic cover came loose, though... Apparently this is a common fault (feature?) on the ABG. Atrocious fit of metal to wood. Looked more like something from the Soviet Union than a custom shop. It felt light. I came across an article where they tested the gun and made the point it's fairly heavy and thus good to shoot (.375 H&H). Open sights impossible to use due to too high comb. The article pointed out the same, as well as one member of this forum. The gun is obviously designed to be scoped. The bolt action seemed smooth, indeed. Very sharp and rough checkering. I bet my hands would be bleeding after a couple of shots. - Lars/Finland A.k.a. Bwana One-Shot

On my first hunt in Zimbabwe I took a Custom Shop ABG in .375H&H. Laminated stock, 26 inch barrel, detachable magazine. I think all the ABGs had detachable mags. I thought the metal to wood fit was pretty good. This rifle was extremely accurate with factory ammo (Remington with Swift A-Frames). However, on day five the...........broke (you asked so I will not mention it). The Remington APR (African Plains Rifle) is the same rifle, but in calibers smaller than Dangerous Game level. I've had them in 338 and 7 Rem Mag. 26" barrels get good ballistics, and they're very accurate. If you're concerned about the strength of the extractor in the big calibers, have it changed out to a Sako extractor...a very common task for the gunsmith on Model 700-based actions. Nice rifles.
