So, I'm at the GunShop discussing the .458 LOTT and the various other things I've posted about here lately, when I hear this little voice ( Tiggertate's ) saying something about the Ruger No.1... I kept hearing other words, too: 'BUBBA' 'STOPPING RIFLE' 'ONE-SHOT; ONE-KILL' 'PAIN...' I was looking at the 2006 Ruger catalog, on the page with the nice engraved floorplates and engraved No.1 rifle. TOTALLY SPACED OUT, I utter the phrase: "Hey, that floorplate would look good on the No.1...!" The Shop Owner looks at me and says: "No.1's don't NEED a floorplate..." I look up and realize what I'd said. "Uh, yeah, they sure don't!" Apparently, I've been a little TOO rifle looney lately and figured since the parts were on the same page, why, they MUST go together! With no escape from that stupid statement, we continued to joke about it for a while. You may do the same! ________________________ Anyway, I started thinking about what Tiggertate said. I realized he was very correct. What I'm chasing is the 'BUBBA Power Level'. I could have that sooner, for le$$ money and trouble, by choosing the No.1. Ready to go. Ammo readily available. The best part of the GunShop visit was the 'nice man' that gave me a bottle of Kentucky Bourbon to take home and investigate the No.1 with for the weekend! Oh, yeah, and my 'special order' floorplate! ____________________________________________ Did I mention, "I REALLY LIKE GUNS"? "...I don't care what you decide or how much you pay for it..." Best pain for the $ is a 460 Wetherby on a #1, if you find a 458 win mag that needs improving, thats the way to go. Actually, there is a caveat to that, Ruger drilled the holes for the 1/4 plate wicked deep on some if not all #1 barrels, and I'd be leary of poking out to the Weebee dimensions on such tubes. Then again, there is hubbles loooong belted case 45 that gets WeeBee performance __________________________________________________ The AR series of rounds, ridding the world of 7mm rem mags, one gun at a time. | |||

Well, we're about 6-shots into the Kentucky Bourbon and Tiggertate is still haunting me: https://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tp.../321104982#321104982 Time for a new rifle.
I must admit, EVERYTHING I've 'SEARCHED' already is validating my latest craze for the No.1. This .458 LOTT cartridge and chasing of the 'BUBBA' Power in a bolt-action repeating rifle had me utterly confused. The cost of putting together even the 'lowliest' of rifles and the ensuing cost of reloading equipment would've buried me before I started. Getting the snot kicked out of me just for fun, well, hey!, that can easily be accomplished by staying with the cartridge and just switching rifles! I might consider a different recoil pad, but that would be IT. The chance of my hunting Africa or even Alaska for Dangerous Game are remote at the moment. Realizing that the .458 LOTT 'in search of' DG should be in a repeating action has not escaped me. The chance of shooting one of the cartridges deemed suitable for that are reachable. I'm looking for a gun that just has that POWER for FUN! If I could order the stainless with walnut stock, that'd be an EXCELLENT start. ____________________________________________ Did I mention, "I REALLY LIKE GUNS"?
