Need help!!I own a Brno zkk 602 460 wby,if I load any rounds into the magazine and shoot the gun the bullets in the mag gets forced deeper into the cases. The mag plate even has dents in it,I can crimp as hard as I want, nothing works! Compared it to my cousins 460 wby in a CZ550,looks the same,he hardly even crimp and he has no problem!Only difference is that my rifle weighs less than his.

There has got to be a way to get a better crimp,
if handloads are getting the bullets set back by recoil banging the bullet nose into the front magazine wall:
1. Neck expander ball of die can be polished .002" smaller to give better neck tension.
2. Lee factory crimp die for 460 Weatherby.
3. Both of the above if necessary.

If factory ammo: Does the bullet set back under recoil with factory ammo?

And yes the bullet, if handloaded: Does it have an adequate cannelure for crimping?

Dents in front magazine box wall:
That sheet metal needs to be hammered smooth again, then reinforced with a steel plate soldered on the wood side of the box front,
or the space between box front wall and stock wood needs to be filled tight with epoxy bedding, or epoxy a steel plate or washer onto the box front. hilbily

Load some of these and put a heavy crimp behind the top driving band with a Lee Factory Crimp Die and I can imagine it being able to set the bullet back

You might try a stiffer magazine spring. It might cut down just enough of the foward movement and the diving down of the cartridges durring recoil, to lessen the impact of the bullet against the front of the mag box.

The best way to fix that problem would be to have a new mag box made that is fitted to the cartridge case to keep the rounds from going foward under recoil and slamming the bullets into the front of the mag box. I would also have the front of the box reinforced as suggested above, as well as the sides and rear.
Also a stiffer mag spring as well.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.I have never seen factory ammo for 460 wby here in RSA,it's just to expensive here. I lowered the velocity to 2200fps with a 500 grain bullet, same problem! Bullets that I use:Hornady dgx &s,Rhino,Barnes and Dzombo solids.
Already bought a new magazine spring, same problem.
I'll keep trying though, cant afford problems when things get ugly.

and the simple trick - use a tight compressed load… That will work as well.. In my 416 Wby and my 458 and 500 AccRel rifles I never crimp - has never been any issues at all.. I use moderately to very heavy compressed loads in all.. Never a problem with compression either… Even in my 577 Tyrannosaur I never crimp when using full power 180 grs powder charges... You might also try simply seating the bullet farther out to take up more room in the magazine and minimize movement that way. Granted, with some bullets it may not work well because you will loose your ability to crimp because of the position of the cannelure , but with bullets like Barnes that have driving bands, you should still be able to find a suitable place to crimp.

Those magazines are pretty cavernous, so you might want to try a dummy round first to make sure that it will still chamber properly.

Are you washing the lube out of your case neck after resizing? I wash mine in hot water and Dawn or other dishwashing soap.

Weight the gun to match cousins, and shoot more comfortable.
And find right powder to use compressed loads.
That way you won't need to download,
IE, why buy a blaster if you got to download..Ed

The mildly compressed powder charge is the best additional recommendation, by Buffalo et al.
That will prevent set-back of the bullet under recoil.
I always do that whenever possible. tu2
However, it won't prevent dimpling your magazine box front, and that could cause serious feeding failure, and a useless rifle.
Cartridge retaining ribs inside the box or other complications are just that, complications.
A strong and rigid front of box is a better solution.
Changing the magazine spring or lowering the velocity of the load a bit are not the solution either.

Not all boxes are equal to a cartridge-specific machined steel hunk like a Duane Wiebe M98 Mauser box:

But the standard sheet metal box can be made serviceable. tu2

Here are some better pictures of sheet metal box re-inforcement.
The BRNO ZKK 602 box is identical to the CZ 550 Magnum box.

Beautiful work on pics above!
One thing I forgot to mention is that if the bullet cant be forced into the case when firing(case stays in crimp groove)the case actually makes a bubble and the round cant be chambered.
I am going to try a few things tomorrow and if I fail I"ll speak to Danie Joubert, maybe he can take a look for me.
I"ll keep you updated.

I had great success with epoxying a 0.030 Teflon strip in the front of the mag box. I also always use 100% load densities so the powder stops the bullet from moving and a death crimp deep into the front crimping groove. -Rob

like the others have said i use full density loads, and like you are using the hornady dgx 500gr pills, with adi 2213sc and adi 2209 powder, i have never had any issues with bullet set back. my rifle is a mkv dgr 460wby. hope you sort it out. just a heads up if using the dgx, i found that once they get over 2300 fps, they shed the core and tear apart, i only use them for casual shooting and fun, not my choice of a hunting pill.
am using the new mono metal pills in .458 cal 450gr from Aussie Custom projectiles, have a look at them, not expensive and far better than hornady.
