jeffeossoWIP -500 jeffe -lousy pictures
but I am tired of working on it for now.
need to put the cap on... forgot to put it back after I was shaping it
stock needs to be rubbed out ALOT...
shesh, what bad pics
my 500 jeffe, enfield action, 23" pacnor barrel, turkish walnut, i shaped/turned/highly altered the stock, timney trigger, cock on open dayton piece, necg sights, adj rear, london guns barrel band and limbsaver large pad. Feeds pretty well, down to mods on the follower, 9#6oz
if you think it looks a little thick now, you should have seen it ~1.1# ago!!

jeffeossough.. ugly pics..forearm isn't anything like as thick as it looks in the second pic .. i'll post some more after I rub out the stock .. the ugly "blue" is just black oxide... barely good enough to keep the steel from rusting, but I am grumpy right now...

Rick RNice looking rifle, put it and the camera away. Tomorrow things will look better.
(I had one of
THOSE Mondays too...)

ShumbaLooking good, but can you try moving the rear sight a little further forward on the barrel. It seems a bit close to the action.
It may work better that way, but this is all about "looking good" and function takes a back seat

470 MbogoHey Jeff,
I really like a thick looking forarm and forend on a big bore rifle. The stock shape looks good.
Take care,
Dave
If it makes you feel better Jeffo you can give it to me mate !!

18 July 2006, 18:10
jeffeossoThanks All. Pc, I'll be glad to give it to you, on your next trip to Houston... we'll just swap for your 585? LOL.....
I left the forearm tall, but not a FAT as it was. It was like holding a baseballl bat.. at the wrong end!
Tim,
the barrel is 23" and the rifle is VERY accurate, so I went after the longest focal length I could make. Certainly non-traditional there, but it works very well.. and easier to focus on.
Dave,
it still has a good heft and feel.. just not FAT... I still prefer the way you did thte mbogo's forearm
Keith, Billy, and all the Bubba's
ya'll get to shoot her, if you like

.366torqueThat's a beautiful rifle jeffe!!!
I like the change to the "dogleg" as well.
For someone who says "this is just a habit, er, a hobby", you're turning out a fine array of rifles!!

That's sweet. The only thing I would suggest is a better camera

I gotta get back to Houston again.

Well, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?
Jeffe,
You need to get rid of the open rear sight and put a JJHACK'S-.458LOTT-STYLE-GHOST-RING-PEEP on the rear bridge.
Then it will rock. Ooh-Rah!
Current rear sight will be good for pointing out where the peep needs to be to zero.

jeffeossoWhat a nice day at the range...
took the 470 AR and the 500 jeffe... the ar is loaded with my powder puff load of a 500gr XLC at 2100fps, and the 500 has cast at 2326 and woodleighs at 2450... you can certainly feel the UMPH! between the two.
stock held up, so I'll "bother" with the feeding.
Rip,
I may very well put a peep on it!
had a guy who's never shot anything but trapdoor loads in his 45/70 shoot the 470.. he was VERY ansy the first shot, which is hit a 2" bull at 50 with... the second shot was touching it.... he came around later and asked again, and the 3rd shoot he pulled a little... with the 4th going in the same bull...
funny how that works... and funnier still that no one, except tom, would touch the 500, but it's "only" going 200fps faster...
in a # lighter gun!!!

Gringo CazadorJeffe,
As far as offers to shoot the 500, my guess as hot as it was, not many people to choose from

Don't guess wind was a problem at the range was it.
if I hadn't already had plans to shoot sporting clays I would have drove up and shot with you. I was soakin ass wet by 9:00

jeffeossoBilly,
it wound up being me and Tom... but the range was PACKED, shoulder to shoulder, when we left... fella had a 470NE blazer (loaded to 2400, go figure), 378w clamshell brake, and his buddy had a Lott ... when the family of autoloader shooters showed up, I had to go... a 40SW brass flying down my neck and into my shirt, WHILE i am about to touch of the Jeffe, well, It was getting hot anyway
