Well my CZ Lott will be a year old on the 24th of April beer. I've been fiddling around with different loads and yet to have a group of favorites. So for it's birthday I want to give it the 2 or 4 loads it will consume for the rest of it's life.

If you would, please reply with your favorite loads for the .458 Lott. Specifically for 500 grains softs and solids. Plus your favorite plinking/varmint/deer load. I really liked JKS's groundhog load, I've already ordered the bullets.

Thank you all in advance

Jerry

I've found 76-80 grs of RL 7 under a 350 gr hornady or speer makes a good practice load, and would do the trick for most NA game. It'll clock 2400-2700 fps, light it off with a Federal 215 or CCI 250

Thanks Guys!!!

Paul H, I've been using that one, it's a goody!

500Grains, I haven't tried IMR4320 as yet. Do you have any crono stats on this one? Maybe I can borrow a cup of it from my cousin to try.

Thanks again and Keep'em Coming

Hog Killer,

Where do you get the 510 Remington's? I've never seen them except on factory loads.

Thanks,

Jerry

I duplicate the Hornady .458 Lott loads with this, and it gives me 2240 fps in a 25" CZ barrel, not 2300 fps that the Hornady factory tester is said to get (no big deal):

500 gr Hornady RNSP
F215 primer
Hornady brass
RL-15 85 grains

I used the old steel jacketed Hornady FMJ solid with 1 grain less powder than the above and got a good match of velocity and POI.

I used to use 68 grains of IMR 4198 in a .458 Win Mag for just under 2400 fps (hot) with 400 grainers, and just over 2500 fps with 350 grainers (not hot).

I guess I would use RL-7 at charges starting somewhere around 70 grains with 350 to 400 grainers in the .458 Lott, if I wanted to turn one into an African Sheep Rifle, but I have not done that yet. 400 grainers at +2400 fps and 350 grainers at +2600 fps should be easy in the .458 Lott, a great one-gun battery, along with the 500 grain loads, if accuracy was good in the rifle???

Jerry,

Found them at a gunshow, still in their red and green box. Along with some other boxes of 458 bullets, one of those buddy's estate sale deals. They are of the "Big Blue Nose" type, lots of lead showing. This is the only box I have seen so far, but I am always on the lookout for more stuff like this, cheap bullets.

Thanks RIP,

Hornady is really making out on this Lott deal, but they won't get rich on my piddling around, just all the other Lotter's. Everyone's looking for brass, I just got 100 more, and the 500 RNSP's are pretty much a standard with me. I'm almost done with my third box of 50.

At the end of this thread, I hope to have quite an assortment. Searching the past has helped too.

Once again, Thanks to All!!

Jerry

I got the solid and soft loads info from D'Arcy. He also suggested that I try H4895 and the new Hornady Solids. I haven't had the time to do so, yet.

The 'plinking' load is my own.

Let us know what you settle on.

80-ish grains of Varget Extreme with 500 grainers sounds like a great load. I haven't tried it but I should.

I double checked, and 85 grains of RL-15 gave me 2245 fps with the 500 grain Hornady RNSP, and a single digit standard deviation, and 3/4 MOA. Same velocity and POI as the factory Hornady loads with "encapsulated" solids, and better accuracy with the handload, of course.

I may have a slow lot of RL-15, so maybe ought to start around 80 grains and work up with a different lot of RL-15 and different rifle.

RIP,

You sure can't ask for more than that! DON'T CHANGE A THING ON THAT LOAD!

That's for sure! Gotta keep some RL-15 on hand. Hopefully the Hornady Interbond new-bullet is just as accurate as the old bullet. That is a great thing Hornady has done.
