Want to sell 458 win tang safety ruger 77. What is value?
I just picked up a Ruger model 77RS tropical (Tang Safety model) 458 Win this last Saturday from a pawn shop as an investment. I am no gun dealer, but would rate it at 80-90% condition. The stock has several dings and it looks like the rifle has been hunted several times. The wood is plain and blond with no striking figure. I think it may be very low grade Circasion. Given the calliber, I think I payed very little for this rifle ($475.00 including tax). The action seems super smooth and the trigger is very nice. The internet auction sites seem to be getting $800.00 and more for these rifles in nicer condition than this one. I am looking to sell this rifle for a modest profit, if possible. Can someone please suggest what this rifle should be worth in the real world. I don't know how to post pics, but if someone were to PM instructions I could give it a try.

FISH!!

Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984:

"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."

You might check the blue book of gun values. It seems pretty accurate. If you dont want to buy the book, most gun shops will have one you can page threw. Then , you would have been wise to take a few minutes to do that prior to buying the gun.

Some of those tropicals had beautiful wood. that being the case and your's looking plain, may set the value slightly lower than blue book.

Just out of curiosity, how many guns can one buy and sell before violating any FFL requirements? Is this something the BATF watches closely? Just wondering and it has zero to do with what Matt is doing.

All INTERSTATE modern gun sales must transact through a dealer in the buyer's home state. To my knowlegde there is no limit on how many guns a private seller can sell as long as a dealer handles the transfer to the buyer. If you ship it to the buyer's dealer for transfer to the buyer you have no worries. Laws governing face to face sales to buyers in your home state vary from state to state.

I agree with the estimate. I had one a few years agowhich I sold for $600 and would buy another at any time. They are truly solid DG rifles.

Hey Matt
Nice find!
My brother bought one a year and a half ago on Gunbroker for about $800. Rather nice shape and it shoots like a dream (sub 1" 3 shot groups at 100 yards). If I had the money I'd make you an offer and pick it up from you without the BS.
Do you just want to make money or is there something you want that I may trade you for?
