We need a source for 20mm Orelickon (sp) brass, let me start there. We're going to cut it back, blow it out to a straight walled case. We estimate a bore size between .900 and 1". We've tentatively named it "Attitude Adjuster" and tentatively given it a caliber of .960.
As for a the rifle itself, we're planning on getting either a State Arms or McBros .50BMG REPEATER action and are going to try to make the magazine hold two round and stick one down the pipe. We hope Lothar-Walther will make us a barrel of suitable bore size for the arm. Reamers we're going to get from PTG or JGS (since he does make extremely large reamers) and dies from CH4d or Redding(all custom of course). Stock will probably be a McBros. 50 BMG stock.
We'll use 50 BMG primers, something on the order of 300 grains of powder and several thousand grain bullet. We're hoping to push it around 2,000 feet per second, estimated energy should be around 21,000 Ftlbs and change.
Any encouragement, comments or accusations are welcomed by all, but especially from Saeed.
By the way, to answer this before hand, we are well aware we have W A Y too much time on our hands. Also, to those who are wondering exactly what we "need" this for anyway, it's insurance in case cape buff start wearing kevlar.

Shoot the largest caliber you can shoot well, and practice , practice, practice.
For your first shot, I presume you will load only one round, and fire it offhand while sitting in a swing.
Will you measure recoil by how many times you and the swing are wrapped around the top bar?
But it sure sounds like a good time!

Our test firer will be given a sissy pad and a bench and sand bags from whic to fire from. We will be several hundred yards away in a reinforced bunker monitoring life signs.
J.W.:
If we every get this project rolling, we'd probably seek a varience from the BATF.

Hey, dont those BATF have to fire that pussycat, to determine in which category it will fit? ;-))
Have fun! Hermann

I mean, really, isn't a BMG enough???
But, I must say, I like the idea. Caliber is ALWAYS a wonderful thing, and, I would love to down load it, with say, a cast bullet, at 1800 fps, that weighs, oh, 1250 grains, for a plinking load.
Please: it would make a wonderful gun for a profesional hunter backup gun(heh, heh, heh...)

Thanks for the offer but don't worry too much about the cases. We're really looking to but a bulk shipment preferrably from the same lot.
Thanks for the offer though

Can a 20mm shell go into a BMG action?
McMillan made 8 actions for the 20mm Vulcan case. Good luck finding one. That's what JD Jones used on his .950 JDJ.
On the FCAS site, there's a pic of a one-off BMG with a falling block action. How about a custom built falling block?
I know of a gunsmith in Austria who was planning a run of 14.5x114 bolt action rifles. Don't know what came of it.
For a barrel, why not a surplus piece from a 25mm cannon? Just a WAG, but I think that's what JD Jones used. Other than that, there are still some people who can make barrels in any bore you want. I believe Norbert, a poster from Germany, is having this done for a .750 cartridge.
A wacky idea I had, really just as a joke, is an ".800 Nitro Express"; lathe-turned brass, using a surplus 20mm barrel and projectiles.
I don't know of anyone making custom falling-blocks this big, the mention of the BMG was just to show that it can be done. There's a a book offered through the magazine "Home Workshop Machinist" on building your own falling block.
My mention of an ".800 Nitro Express" was a what-if idea. Use surplus 20mm (.820") projectiles and a surplus barrel, then have some straightwall rimmed cases made on a lathe. Get some .50BMG or even 20mm Vulcan primers. Just a crazy idea.
So....who's gonna go for it?
