Several recent posts have referenced the need to bed RSMs. How do you RSM owners bed your rifles?
Products? Techniques? Thanks.

I think a lot of people like to tinker, if the rifle shoots well I wouldn't mess with it, I'd spend my time bedding something else! I just got one of these and I don't believe I'd do anything except lighten up the trigger. I would however warn you to check the stock screws everytime you fire it for the first 100 or so. A lot of the Rugers I have owned in smaller calibers get loose after 100-150 rounds, but I think the .416 will settle into the wood a bit quicker, a bit more thrust backwards, I'd say, than my 7x57.

I steel bedded the recoil hanger in the forend just like you would any recoil lug, steel bedded the front of the receiver and front action screw (the stock on mine was split from the factory between the front action screw and the mag box, I'm glad I caught that before I ever fired the rifle) and the front of the floorplate area, and steel bedded UNDER the rear tang area at the rear action screw. DO NOT BED behind the tang area. That slight gap between the rear tang and the stock is a MUST. If you bed behind the tang, it will split the stock. Bed under the rear tang area, not behind the tang. Last, I free floated the barrel with just a little support for the first three inches on the lower edge and sides, but open in the middle to allow the recoil plate to be removed. All that done and I have about 300 rounds through mine with no problems and it will hold MOA if I do.

you basically bed it like any rifle...bed the recoil lug on the rear portion, not on the sides and bottom...the recoil lug being the hanger in this case...bed the tang...an I like to tight bed the remaining forward portion of the barrel on big bores...cut a space in front of the recoil lug or use a molded piece of clay to give you a proper release for disasembly...
