there seems to be precious little data for this combination. i would greatly appreciate it if someone has some data or perhaps can steer me toward some published data. i am specifically interested in data for 350 grain bullets and 500 grain bullets. i know most guys are kind of goosey about giving out specific data. maybe i can get some starting and ending charges and velocities if you have it. anything you guys are willing to share, i will hugely appreciate it. i know that most guys have some favorite powder other than IMR4320. but i have some and i'd like to use it if i can. thanks again for any help you all can offer.

I loaded my 458 Lott with IMR4320 when I was looking for a load. My notes show where I started at 81gr with a 500gr softnose Hornady. It looks like I loaded 500gr TSX's with 82-83gr of IMR4320.I just looked on LoadData.com and they listed a load with 83gr of 4320.

thanks, Ed. i had previously used 82 grains with the 500 grain bullet and got 2271fps. this is a good load but a real cheek smacker. my rifle weighs 13 pounds with the scope. i am happy for every pound of it. i'd hate to shoot this load in a 9 pound rifle. you don't have any info on the 350 grain bullet?? thanks again.

Don't want to upset the applecart here, but I was tempted to look in the Hornady 8th edition and, while they don't have 350 gr loads with IMR4320, they do have 500gr loads and their MAX load is 73.6 gr. And yes, it is in the Lott. My Nosler manual stops at 450 Marlin so not much help there. -- Promise me, when I die, don't let my wife sell my guns for what I told I her I paid for them.

I burned a lot of IMR 4320 when I started loading 458 Lott many years ago..... I was burning anything from 78 to 81 grs...... Low of 2100 fps to 2325 fps..... Found a lot of inconsistency from one keg of IMR 4320 to the next however. Later I moved to RL 15, and you can get inconsistency in RL 15 as well, but used it for many years. I burn IMR 4320 in some other cartridges now, and if I had a keg of IMR 4320 and nothing to do with it, then yes you can use it in 458 Lott without any issues at all.. Today I would probably use IMR 8208, which is just an excellent powder in 458 Lott. Bren7x64: i saw that also. it seems like a mistake though. if you look at the data in the same manual for the 458 WinMag, it shows 73.8 grains giving an MV of 2100. the load for the Lott is 73.6 grains giving an MV of 2100. about a year ago, i got a copy of the errata sheets for this manual. the list itself, printed on 8 1/2 x 11 sheets, is three sheets long. there are an enormous number of corrections to be made to the manual. i wonder if this one that simply got overlooked. interestingly though, the same data shows up in their 9th edition also. however, this points to the original question i had..... "where is the published data for this powder". i see a lot of data on this forum, and i have successfully used 82 grains for a long time with a 500 grain bullet. BUT.... i can't find published data for this powder and the Lott, and that is what i was looking for. as a note..... i believe that the guy who invented this round, Jack Lott, used 83 grains of IMR4320 in his final loading. there was an article in Rifle magazine Number 135 May-June 1991, that shows 83 grains at 2,321 using a 500 grain Barnes Original. thanks.

Ah, OK. I admit I didn't spend hours comparing - just took a look and thought I'd post ASAP. -- Promise me, when I die, don't let my wife sell my guns for what I told I her I paid for them.
