I read on an Aussie forum that Sako 85 Brown Bears in .416 Rigby are about to become available in Australia. I checked the Sako website and saw that the rifle is also available in .450 Rigby and .500 Jeffery. It sounds like a good thing to me. Any of you blokes know any more, or have experience with this rifle in these larger calibres? Thanks.

No Ben, not me but contact Rob Fickling from Beyond The Divide (are you on fb?)as he used one to take a cape buff in the Caprivi Strip not so long back. I was tempted by the 500Jeffery but ended up with a nice M98 instead. Cheers, Mark.

I understand that Sakos in heavier calibers are known for excessive recoil. Perhaps someone can comment. I have a 75 in 338 and like it, but find it bulky.

I think the stainless synthetic in 375 H&H @ 7 lbs would be a dandy rifle - that weight would truly make it a "one rifle" rifle. I have both the above calibers, and one in 375 H&H too. Rifles are just normal Sako quality. In other words, the best rifles made in Europe today. You will not go wrong with either of them. They are bit heavy, but, it seems all factory rifles in large calibers are made heavy.

Ha! Thanks, Saeed! I have a Sako Brown Bear .500 Jeffery now that I really enjoy. It killed its 20th buffalo on Sunday.

I was just going to post that you had one in New Zealand and that the recoil didn't look excessive in the videos that you sent me. Ben do you find the stock a little short? "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." Sir Winston Churchill

G’day, the stock seems to fit me fine. I reckon I must be the lucky bloke that factories average their stocks for.

For bear I like the .338 Win and 250 Nosler partitions just fine..A 375 is also a good bear caliber. but. Im told by some sho nuff old time outfitters that a 30-06 kills them just fine if you can shoot..I don't doubt that one bit.
