Gents:

I also have posted this in the Reloading forum but was hoping to get traffic here as well: I just received my sample pack of 265 gr GS HVs for 375 caliber. Has anyone got a load they may care to share with me? I am trying to navigate the BATF redtape in the hopes of becoming a US distributor for the company if all goes well and enough interest is there.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hmmm! I thought they already had one! I don't have a load for the HV's but the 280 FN's are wonderfully accurate with 75 grs. RL15.

Two that I know of, Benchrest (is that right?) and Yukon Delta after him.

There are at least two current distributers plus GS sells direct into the USA. Additionally, BATFE does not regulate importation of ammunition - State Department does by treaty.

They are excellent bullets but I have a supply of 416s and 375s which should last me. Now if someone has some 9.3 solids I would be interested. My 9.3x74R needs some!

Both of the previous distributors, recently Bryan (Yukon Delta in AK) and IIRC John (HV Concepts or something very similar in TX) are no longer dealers for the USA. Various reasons for both.

Check out the GSC website, www.gscustom.co.za for details in a note by Gina.

I hope you can get the distribution to work, jsl3170, but as mentioned customers in the US can buy direct knowing it may take awhile.

Gerard posts reloading data on his site and is always helpful when I have needed advice.

Good Luck.

isn't the part about "call us in SA for assistance/ordering" a bit expensive and time consuming (I mean the wait)?

This will give you the load data you seek. It's from their own website.

can someone please compare/contrast GS vs Barnes for me? I'm trying to understand whether a strong, viable market exists for the product, importation issues aside.

Thanks.

When I think of GS Custom bullets I think of:
Premium
Africa
Their FN's in particular, are extremely effective. I think that their HV's while excellent, could be replaced by Nosler Partitions without losing much sleep. If I am correct, then the market in the USA for GS Custom bullets is not a big one. I can buy Nosler seconds for range practice but at about $1 each I am not going to do much plinking with my GS Customs. However, they have proven to be extremely accurate in all the rifles I have tried them in. The same is not true of Barnes.

I considered them when I bought my 416 Rigby, but was disappointed by their lack of availability in the US. At the time neither of the US distributors had their 416 solids in stock. Ordering direct from Africa just makes it more expensive and time consuming. I'm sure the US is potentially their largest market and I can't understand why they don't have a dealer here that stocks a complete line of their bullets. Availability is the important.

If I'm going to use bullets from a small custom manufacturer, I want one where I can pick up the phone and order a box or two and have it delivered in a few days. Northfork is a good example of this. I decided to use the Barnes solids instead and it has worked well for me.

Maybe with TSX but not partitions. Just used HV's and TSX on a Buffalo Hunt and they are just as good. Partition is not even in the same class of bullet.
