Single or Double triggers? Login/Join

This may seem like a simple question that should be obvious to me, but why one over the other. Which one is recommended? It would seem that a single trigger would be faster to operate for a second shot. Or is there a chance of accidentally firing the second round under recoil?
Thanks, lar.

Lar,
imho, the double trigger allows for instant choice of left or right, without worrying about the trigger selector. again, imho, single triggers are best left for shotguns, not DGRs

Immediate barrel selection and higher reliability are the reasons why I prefer double triggers in double barrel shotguns and rifles, regardless of barrel orientation. Double trigger shotguns benefit from straight grips because they allow a faster slide of the hand back to pull the rear trigger. The movement isn't much, but it is easier with a straight or very open (Prince of Wales) grip.

I prefer a medium radius pistol grip on double rifles to aid in control under recoil.

DOUBLE TRIGGERS is the rule that shall not be broken regarding double rifles.
Imagine how great the double will be if the selective action for the trigger fails to operate prefect. A brilliant failure that most likely will happend when it's not supposed to [Eek!] [Eek!]

The fastest selector is the one between your ear's and it works fine with double triggers. Just keep track of what your fingers are doing and practice regular [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

I prefer the immediate selection of choke that the double trigger offers. No clicking of barrel selectors or searching for the barrel selector or checking if it is properly set, just move your finger a bit. Works for me.

BTW, I see that the Merkel 16 is fitted with double triggers.

The Holy Grail of double rifles demands two things!

1. Nitro Express Flanged Cartridge. Low pressure, flanged to insure extraction/ejection!

2. Double Triggers. One goes out, you still have a rifle not a $10,000 club!

All else is heresy! [Big Grin]

Double triggers on a double rifle or shotgun is the only way to go. I even have a bolt action rifle with two triggers. [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Plainly put, if the double rifle is to be used for dangerous game it should have two triggers!

The whole idea of haveing a double rifle in the first place is, it is two completely indipendant rifles on the same stock. The single trigger is the one thing that takes that away. If that trigger fails, in any way, you are left with, as Rusty says, a $10,000 dollar billy club. Most of the triggers I've come in contact with on double rifles are not fitted with selectors, but simply fire the right barrel first!

It all depends on what you want to use the rifle, or shotgun for! If your double rifle is one used for hunting Moose, Elk, Deer, and Black bear, then the single trigger is not a draw back to safety. If it fails you just miss a shot at a deer, however if you are useing it to stop an Elephant, buffalo, or lion, and that trigger fails........... Well, let's just say, I'd far rather be someplace else! [Eek!]

When everything goes right, your in high cotton, but when the devil pisses in your flintlock, your in deep crap! I simply don't see the need to add anything to the mix, when I don't have to, that may draw my blood. [Confused]

ONLY a double trigger gun for me in a DGR...

My old Browning superposed with one trigger always ticks me off, but I like the gun...You know Browning made a double/single trigger that was the best set up I ever saw...you chose your trigger on the first shot then pulled the same trigger again OR the other trigger (either one) for the second shot..I wish some custom outfit would offer those triggers for the Brownings...

A failure of the single trigger in my O/U 12 gauge would result in missed opportunity. A like situation in a DGR could be a disasterous last opportunity.

Double trigger DGR = two complete rifles in one stock. Called insurance. [Wink]

I have seen a few winchester 101 with that same style of trigger.

My old FN O/U B2G that is no longer with me had double triggers that worked as the classic double triggers. I regrett that I sold it to my cousin [Confused]

It can be frustrating to some new shooter to remeber to move the finger [Big Grin]
