I have heard that the CZ550 does not shoot cast bullets well, something to do with the throat length. Can anyone help me out. I am looking to purchase one of these fine weapons but would like to shoot cast mostly. Additionally can you recommend moulds you have used in 458 with the CZ550.
Jeremy. I have a 458WM barrel in which the bullets jump about .3". With finnish GunHill FN-GC bullets it shoots 1,5-2" groups. When I was trying the same loads in my new Brno 602 I was not able to hit an open newspaper at 30 paces. I stopped there. The 500gr Hornady SP has to jump about .85" to get to the lands, groups around 1-1,5". Try a few bullets, you might find something that might work. Good rifle, though. AKI
AKI? Could you share the loads you have used in the 458Win with cast bullet with us. I have just made a couple of hundred 450gr Lee FP I have used 15gr Red Dot wich give the velocity of 1115f/s and it have worked Ok, about 2" at 80m but it would be fun to some different loads/ PerN

Try 28grs of 2400 with a dacron filler over a 500 gr pure linotype bullet sized .459 or fresh from the mould with SPG lube. XMP5744 loads w/o a filler will also work very well. This load has worked in every .458mag I've tried. In big bore guns the most common reason they won't shoot cast bullets is either the shooter isn't using a bullet at least .001 over grove size and or they are using an alloy that is too soft. If this load doesn't work size your barrel and pay attn to the muzzel. Try Linotype, it's extremely hard but casts beautifully. There are other ways to harden alloys, but IMHO pure Lino works best. I've used it successfully in everything from .22's to 50BMG.

In my CZ and Ruger .458s, both keyholed cast bullets when loaded to normal overall lengths. When I seated the bullets way out in the CZ they shot much better. I also finally got good accuracy in the Ruger by seating the bullets by hand and running a charged case in behind it. I don't recommend that, though. It certainly would make rapid fire practice interesting.
Thanks for the advice so far. These loads look like reduced loads. Have any of you guys taken 458 cast bullets up to 2000 fps and beyond with good results?
I have some 390 grain pointed lead bullets that I picked up at a shop in a clearance sale. Loaded to 2,200 FPS from my Remington 30S in .460 G&A (404 J necked up) and they seem to work well. Cast very hard.
