Jamison International's quality has taken a decided upswing lately.

When Remington pulled the plug on their 416 Rem Mag brass, the sort of put Winchester, Heym, Blaser, Johannsen, D'Arcy Echols, Sauer and a whole bunch of people who use that cartridge a lot , for work, out in the lurch. The customer service individuals response translated into something involving a donkey.

Hornady said that they were over-stretched as it was. I did tell them that their Belted basic brass and a Redding form and file die, followed by full length sizing worked very well (for future reference). At least they recommended riding the donkey.

Marc Jamison said, "hmmmm, mmmmmhmm, hmmm...." Three months later they were in production. They took extra time to make sure the QA was up to snuff. This brass mikes out on the nose, and shoots well for a friend whole does the trigger pulling for me at present. It anneals just fine.

Horneber does make the 416 Rem Mag brass in Germany, but it costs a bit to get it over here (via Reimar Johannsen).

Anyway, it is here, now. It might be worth giving it a try and if you like it, STOCK UP.

Never bought any from Jamison. Do you have a link or contact number?

Never used Jamison brass in 416 but their 600OK and 585AHR is excellent. I have some of each with more than 8 reloads - all full-power stuff. If their 416 Remington is as good, it should be fine for multiple reloads as well.

Jamison Brass

Jamison brass is closely associated with the .408 CheyTac folks, IIRC.

Quality was uneven about five or six years ago. Now, QA is numba 1, GI.

If you are practicing with your big bore a lot, which you should be, just ultrasonically clean your cases and anneal them every third cycle. That is really not a big chore. If you have a .416 Remington Magnum, stock up on brass. Otherwise you will have to pay through the nose to get brass from Horneber out of Germany.

If I didn't say this before, "STOCK UP!"

I will post some pictures in the next few weeks, and compare the measurements to the now unavailable/defunct Remington version.

I googled Jamison yesterday and contacted them. They have already sold out of their first 416 Remington production run. They are going to have another run next week. I bought 100 cases from the next run. It is my understanding that they will continue making this offering.
BTW; Lawndart, thanks for the tip!

I have had very good luck with Jamison brass in the last few years. I will continue to support them as they offer a lot of very specialized cases and don’t charge a crazy high price IMO. I also agree that their quality is good. It lasts much longer than Norma brass in my experience. Not sure why Midway dropped them but Graff and Sons appears to be a stocking dealer and their service and prices appear very competitive.

The old brass I could only get 1 shot then it would crack. This new brass I have shot 5 times
with no cracks.

So if Remington quit selling component brass for 416 cal I wonder if they will stop production of their factory loaded stuff.

You could always disassemble it and anneal the cases and the reassemble it.

I have 500+ cases of Remington made 416 brass. It came from a good lot. Their lots were of very uneven quality, and they tended to shove in about three grains too many off RL-15 for their cartridges. Hence the split necks and sticky extraction problem that almost doomed the cartridge.

That said, I do have a few dozen Remington made 416 Rem Mag brass that I have reloaded five times without a problem (better anneal them this go around).

I purchased the Hornady Belted Basic from Midway a couple of months ago. The Hornady Basic specs the length as 2.87 but mine is short at 2.750 as I remember. My Redding form die just came though so I have not tried to form up and FLS any 416 RM cases yet - but it still seems like it will be short to me.

What do you think? I am not sure how much stretch I want to have before I have something I DONT want to have Eeker!

FWIW I ran some Hornady Basic Belted Brass thru the .416 sizer die and it comes out a bit long. I don't remember how much but a quick pass with the case trimmer resulted in some perfectly usable .416 Remington brass.

What about using Hornady .375 H&H brass? It might turn out a bit short after forming and the necks might be too thin but thinking it might be worth a try.

I was going to use the Hornady as my range shooter brass and loads and "save" my Rem headstamped cases. I will have to give the sizer a go and see how long they turn out. Thanks.

1. It works perfectly.

2.Any Remington brass you have laying around will be fine.

3. The Jamison brass is very good.

4. The Horneber brass; available from Reimar Johannsen is wonderful.

5. You can even use Hornady 458 Lott brass.

Just size it, load it and shoot it.

Here's the load even: 76 - 78 grains of RL-15 under any 400 grain bullet that fits.
