made the trip to the new gander mt and looked over the rifles. new CZ amer. in 416 Rigby and a M77 in 458 Lott. either would be a great gun to play with. the ruger felt better in my hands, but that 45 cal hole in the barrel might have made me light headed. i almost put it on layaway. $1699 if not mistaken. maybe next payday. i'm not planning a trip to africa but would love to play with that rifle!!! my shoulder and head hurt thinking about it.

"Get'r Done" ASAP. The RSMs are very nice for, a factory rifle. Get a better recoil pad installed and you should be good to go. If you handload the Lott is a fun round to play with.

HK well, i do handload and can imagine 500 gr bullets 2000 to 2100 fps to play around with. the thing that stopped me from getting that rifle is that i have money saved to hunt wild boar in TN or GA. it may not happen and if not that rifle is MINE! thanks for the encouragement. dancing

JS, do not forget the Remmy 405gr SP. They are my favorite plinker, plentiful and CHEAP! I run mine at 2100fps, deadly on hogs and milk jugs.

They just opened the new Gander Mountain here in Central Florida, too. It beats the drive to Bass Pro by 45 minutes. Nice store...and yes, the Ruger Magnums are $1699...which is a pretty good price. The ammo and reloading section is nonexistant above the 338 cal...oh well....that's why there's the internet!

Gander sure is consistant about their displays. We have the same guns on display here in Texas at two different stores along with a Ruger #1 in 375 H&H and another in Lott. All-in-all it is a decent store to go into and look at guns without being bugged too much. I find that both the Bass Pro Shops and Gander Mountain are lacking in their reloading departments with Gander way ahead of Bass Pro. Internet sure does make things easier in that department!

Hog Killer was generous enough to let me shoot some of these loads and they are very mild and enjoyable. The full house 500 gr. @ 2200-2300 fps will get your attention but they are nothing that can't be overcome with practice. I say go for it and don't look back.

makes me feel even luckier...I was able to buy a CZ550 Safari Magnum Lux in 416 Rigby, complete with dies, shellholder, RCBS and 97cases (including 8 rounds of loaded ammunition) just two weeks ago for $675
It was a Saturday, and no, I didn't buy a lottery ticket. Din not want to push my luck.

Rich

Get the Rigby, the cartridge and the rifle are classics.

i'm leaning toward the Lott because of the price of brass for the rigby. for the classic DGR the Rigby is the choice. the Harry Selby 416 is something i have looked at in pictures and dreamed. the big bore bug has bit me square in the ass! now i need to see what i can scrounge or sell to buy one. Hog Killer said to change the recoil pad and i did notice it was hard as a rock but might be easy enough to fix even for me.
