In the past I bought the Rockchucker Supreme Kit, brass, dies, bullets, and two days ago bought a Ruger 416 Rigby. Did it a bit backwards but it kept my focus on a 416. Thanks to everyone for the comments and answers that I and others had. For 20 years I have always been a shotgun and handgun hunter. This is my first, other than .22, rifle. I plan on this being my "heavy gun" for elk, moose, bear, if I am fortunate enough to make all of those hunts. Also possibly Africa. I will also load a light bullet to use as a backup gun for deer and other hunts so I will mount a higher powered variable scope with quick release mounts for the longer range hunting. For close hunting of the big game, heavy loads with a 1-5x. I have moved to the next level of questions for various accessories capable of withstanding the recoil of the 416. Best quick detach scope mounts Low power variable scope High power variable 3x9, 4x10 Are there any low power that are illuminated reticle? Any good slings to carry guns across the front at the ready?

Congratulations, and welcome to the group. For lighter bullets I like the 350 Speer Magtip on paper and the 350 Barnes X on game. Of course, 400 Barnes and Woodleighs are superb. I use a 1.5-5 Leupold w and illuminated reticle and it has held up well on my CZ. Enjoy! Mike -------------- DRSS, Womper's Club, NRA Life Member/Charter Member NRA Golden Eagles ... I have a 2.5x compact on my cz .416 with a composite stock but would be very content with a 1-4 leupold as well. I would use either warnes or talley's

Welcome to the club. Have you fired that gun yet? George

No, I haven't shot it yet. It's been such a long time coming that a little time in prep will be fine. I've shot countless rounds of 3 1/2 inch 12 ga waterfowl loads in a pump but for some reason, probably because of this forum, want to start with 300 grain minimum loads and work up to the full house 400 gr. loads ! ! I guess it's fear of the unexpected. As a younger fella, I shot 3in slugs out of a light 12 ga single shot smooth bore with only a bit of hesitation from the bench. I plan on this gun being my primary go to rifle with a number of loads developed from light competition loads in our club's over 40 bore matches, zippy loads for longer 300+ yard deer and elk to heavy slow loads for timber elk, moose, bear, etc. I'm quite excited about the versatility potential of the 416 Rigby. Over the years of research I've always migrated back to the 416 Rigby so I'm hopeful that I made the right choice....

Congrat"s Kazoo, My advise to you before you spend any extra money on eguiping the gun is to take it out and fire it. The Big guns have big recoil,it took a bit of pratice and the help of a past recoil sheild to get used to my .416 rem mag. I am not trying to discourage you, because shooting a big bore it a hoot, and I shoot mine alot, but not everyone is comfortable with the recoil. Have Fun

Congrats to you on both the Rigby and the choice of the Ruger. You'll be pleased with both. The RSM is a fantastic rifle and you'll have minimal tinkering to do if any (a more visible front sight is about the only thing I plan to do with mine). My .375 was fine out of the box and I've been enjoying the hell out of it ever since. It's surprisingly accurate with the express sights and wears a Leupold 1.5x5 scope. If you've been shooting mag loads out of a 12 ga you'll have no trouble with the .416 either. Proper grip is important, but it's no big deal. Now that you have a .22 rimfire and a .416 Rigby there's nothing you can't do... No sense in cluttering up your mind or your gunsafe with too many choices? .22 LR Ruger M77/22 30-06 Ruger M77/MkII .375 H&H Ruger RSM

Kazoo - You'll love the Ruger RSM. I purchased one chambered in .458 Lott about 6 weeks ago. It is perfect right out of the box. In my humble opinion, the Ruger RSM is a classy, quality rifle. Enjoy it. Best, Starcharvski.

Fire it up! If you can handle a 3 1/2 inch 12 gauge pump, the Rigby isn't going to bother you. I would suggest a 1 inch good quality pad. The Ruger pads are thin and hard. You're gonna love it!!!
