I have been kicking around a 450Marlin bolt gun for sometime. Do not need one. Then I start thinking about necking it down. 416 and 375 would be neat. Then I start thinking hell Remington makes ultra mags and I can lose the belt. So now I kicking the idea of shortening a full size ultra mag brass so the AOL is the same as a 450Marlin. Has anyone done this? I do not care about practical. I am not trying to get out the flame proof suit, or get a big fight brewing. Just would like some thoughts and input. Just bored treestand or taking a dump type thinking. More powder than a short mag or 06 based, but not as beastly as a RUM. Thought process is enough powder to do big heavy bullets justice, while losing the tooth rattleing recoil. Maybe after some table top, if it seems to be a good idear, I might go the next step and Kiff will get a call and I will go hunting an action. Seems cheaper to start here.

There was a cartridge made on the .404 case shortened & necked to .458 called the .460G&A short. Sounds like what you would be looking for. A .450Marlin bolt gun makes little sense to me because it's only a bit shorter than a .458winmag. There would be a perf. advantage to the .460G&A plus no belt. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!
