I picked up some Hornady 350gr RN to load in my Lott. How have these performed on N.A. game? What velocity are you loading them to? Any favorite loads?

I don't have my load notes handy, so this is from memory. 80 gr of RL-7 produced 2525 fps in a 21 1/2" lott. I never got a chance to use them on game. I'd start at 76 gr and work up. I also recall the speer 350's produced their best accuracy w/ 76 gr RL-7 for 2400 fps.

I wouln't try a broadside shoulder shot on a coastal brown bear with them, but for everything else in NA, I'd expect them to be more then sufficient within 250 yds.

Ihave used that bullet in the 45/70 the 458 and in my 450No2 double. In the double it regulates at @2330fps. I have killed several deer and wild pigs with it. I have only recovered one bullet from a hog I shot facing me at @44 yards. The bullet hit the hog in the face and penetrated almost to the rear ham. He went right down. The bullet went through a lot of bone and held up very well. I do not thinkI would want to drive it much faster.
For game
smaller than raking shots on elk or moose it is a very good bullet.
I would think it would be a great bullet for black bear over bait.

He was 250 to 260 baised on several hogs I have weighed.I really like the 350 Hornady bullet, BUT from elk and up in thick timber I would go with at least a 400 gr premium bullet.
It is the bullet that does the "work", I never try to save money on bullets when hunting.

NE 450 No2,

Thanks for your responce, I will try the 350s out on some hogs soon.(I hope) They seem to me to be about right for such critters. I am trying Paul H's starting load, of 76gr/Re7/2400fps. I should get the nearly the same results as you did with your fine SxS. I do not have to worry about any elk here in southeast Texas. If one shows up though, I will find a better load to plug him with. Take care.

I would not want to drive the Hornady 350 gr over 2400fps. If I wanted more velocity I would go to a 400 grain premium bullet.
For all game uder Elk I like the the 350 grain Hornady. For elk and up I would go to a 400 gr Premium.
Check out 458 Win's posts. He knows where of he speaks.
The 458 Win or the 458 Lott with the proper bullet at the proper velocity must rank at the top of the list as "Best All Round".

Saturday, went to meet Jeffeosso and do some large bore plinking. Had a great time. He brought out his Chrony and we clocked some different loads. One of which was the above mentioned 350gr Hornady, clocked it at 2510 fps. Nice load, but I will not load it any hotter on NE450#2's advice. I learned long ago not to believe everything that bullet makers claim about what their bullets are good for. Driving speed and stricking speed are two very different things. Any thing I intend to shoot with the Lott, I plan on doing up close, not at 200 yds.
