Thanks for your input guys. The choice i have to make for Ed Plummer is, use his X-brake or the 'conventional' styled brake, and, probably just as significantly, leave it oversize or finished to barrel contour? Planned finished barrel lenght is 24'', .500 AHR.

Thanks,
Bob

bob,

I have an AHR 550 Safari DGR in .458 Lott with the X-Brake (mine's the engraved one on Ed's DGR webpage). I think the X-Brake works well, and it's definitely quieter than the Answer Products brake I have on a .375 H&H Mag.

I think you'll like it if you go with Ed's.

I HAVE a .375H&H that weighs 8 pounds and I can shoot one handed and equate the recoil to that of a .357magnum handgun.

My .340s have been said to "that kicks less then my 20ga." and "my .243 is worse then that"

Dr. Taylor picked this brake because it was the best he tested against all the others for the .408Cheyenne.

You will find them on .22 screamers for prarie doggers who like to see them blow up, to belt fed machine guns for those who like to off hand their Mag58s and M60s with control to the BIG bores up to .50BMGs...and bigger...
