Leica #1 Reticle Login/Join

I'm curious about Leica's #1 reticle for my .375 H&H and was wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with it? It seems like a good reticle for up close and low light, but when stretching the distance to 100 or perhaps 200 yards, do the thicker posts work against you?

Thanks

That kind of reticle would be fine for driven/running game, but I don't think I'd like it for longer shots.

Perhaps a #4A reticle would be more to your liking.

You are probably correct George given the versatility of the .375 H&H.

I have only used a #1 reticle on my dad's brno .22lr, but I find it easy to be quite precise with shot placement due to the taper on the top of the post. I have no issues shooting cows at 100 yards with that .22lr. The post may be thick but the tip of the post is fine, I think it would easily be precise enough for any game hunting out to 200 yards or more. As for low light and up close I think I even prefer it over the #4 or 4A reticles which I have on all of my rifles.

I am also looking for a new scope for my 375H&H and have narrowed it down to the 2.5-10x42 Leica ER with the #1 reticle or the Swarovski Z6 1.7-10X42 with a 4A reticle. Considering that the Leica is 2/3 the price of the Swarovski I think it is an amazing deal.

It's not the caliber of the rifle that matters - It's the caliber of the man behind it.

Definately meant crows. What tipped you off to the spelling error? Don't you guys use .22s for cow hunting?

My new .375 just arrived at the post office, and I can't wait to get home!! I think a Leica with a #1 will be coming soon to go with it.

Nope. .17HMR; lighter bullet, but higher velocity. It's that whole "magnum mania" / "Weatherby hydrodynamic shock" thing. Big Grin

Only when poaching them.

Ooops. Did I post that in a public forum? My bad.

The one time I looked at a Leica No. 1 reticle, it looked kinda thin relative to other ones. Not sure that matters, and your milage may vary, but FYI.

LWD are you confusing the #1 with the #4 because this is the first time I have ever seen such a #1 reticle?

I ended up getting a Zeiss Victory Diavari 1.5-6x42mm T* with the #4 reticle today. Thank you George Smiler Your advice was spot on.

I'm glad I could be of help.

I just bought a couple of scopes with the 4A reticle for two of my ARs.
