Gentlemen, I thought some of you might be interested in seeing these. H4831 and 970 grains Walterhog bullets. All loads use Federal 215 primers, and 2 grains of Bullseye to help ignition. 1. 220 grains 2026 fps 2. 230 grains 2122 fps 3. 240 grains 2240 fps 4. 250 grains 2300 fps - stiff bolt. About time you got this over in the Big Bore Forum where it belongs! 12GaFH loading expertise will be directly applicable to 700NE:
Nice! I never met an H4831 load that I didn't like! I do think the 1000-ish-grain bullet is best too! Please consider: You might get less recoil for velocity obtained and get better ignition, if you can load some Alliant powder of the RL-17 variety:

Above is the recommended sub-31,908 psi load. This approximation is 78% density and requires a filler. 190.0 grains of RL-17 gives 2068 fps with a 1.5"-long 1000-grainer at 31,855 psi. The 100% density load for Walter to test from the bench is: 242.0 grains of RL-17 giving 2582 fps with same 1000-grain bullet at 63,425 psi. No filler needed for that one!!! Having conquered the 12Ga FromHell 3.85", aka .729 NE 3.85", I plan to get more shooter friendly now. Will do the 20Ga Hellboy 3.5", aka .615 NE 3.5", with minimum fuss: RL-17 and 900-grainers, stop at 2150 fps, unless I blow myself up or go blind before I get there.

Saeed, How do you segregate the 2 grains of Bullseye from the H4831? The loads could become useless in the field if the starter powder becomes mixed into the main powder charge, eh? We used 10 to 15 grains of Blue Dot in the 12GaFH, segregated from H50BMG, etc., by a disc of tissue paper or one of the frangible, clear-plastic overshot cards for 12Ga. That makes a 209 shotgun primer work reliably on the biggest and slowest charges that can be gotten into the case, like 240 grains of H50BMG!!! The great thing about the RL-17 is that no duplex load or starter powder is needed. Gift of Ed Hubel, that technique. It gives reliable ignition with either a CCI-209 or F-215 primer. This will be very reassuring to Walter when he uses the 700 NE on DG: No worries about a dud or hangfire when he faces a charge.

We have no problem with the powders mixing, as we put the Bullseye at the bottom, with the rest of the charge on top. This of course works in our lab, as all we do is walk a few steps and shoot it. We got some filler today, because we want to develop some reduced charges, just in case some of our future Champions want to try it.

Saeed, Your current loading tricks will never do for field use, especially when Walter starts PH-ing for his new business venture: "Nitro Excess Safari's: We let the buffalo decide how he wants you to die!" Walter will need reliable backup firepower from your 700 NE. Modify to CCI-35 50BMG primers? Your rifle is a natural for that, since it is a rebarreled 50BMG. Use some 14-gauge gass seals/cards/wads/fillers? Circle Fly Shotgun Ammunition Wads for Cowboy Smokeless & ... Shotgun Wads. For your Shotgun Black Powder Cartridge loads. ... 1/2" Ox-Yoke Prelubed 14 Gauge Shotgun Fiber Wads. Item #: RMC14FIBER ... www.buffaloarms.com/browse.cfm/2,321.html - Similar Use 10 to 15 grains of Blue Dot and a tissuepaper disc to keep it from mixing with the slower powders? Or just use RL-17: Easiest of all Better ask Walter for some input on this ...

And if he wants, use the new Bertram 700NE cases as they have the bmg primer pocket, which is what I set up for msorenso in the 700NE in the Savage. And its longer barrel will make big gain in velocity. As for fillers the shotgun wads as RIP mentioned, are many times safer than loose fill or wadded dacron, etc.Great with RE17.Ed MZEE WA SIKU

Due to past experience with Bertram brass, I have made a promise to never, ever use them. The ones I have had before where the worst made cases I have ever seen, by miles. The brass we have is from Horneber in Germany. And as we do not have any urge to ever use this rifle for hunting, I think they will serve our purpose.

Oh well, if you are not even planning to take the 700NE after polar bear, and Walter is not using it as his PH's stopping rifle for NITRO EXCESS (C) safari duties ... then never mind my comments. No bacon at risk here.

We worked a few reduced loads for our 700. using our Walterhog 970 grain bullet. All loads had Federal 216 primers, and 15 grains of Kapok as filler. 1. 50 grains of Unique 1274 fps 2. 50 grains of Blue Dot 1284 fps 3. 50 grains of H322 704 fps 4. 60 grains of H322 934 fps 5. 55 grains of H322 911 fps 6. 33 grains of Blue Dot 882 fps

Nice loads for breaking in Walter on the 700 NE. Even a caveman could handle those. Dr. Leonard H. "Bones" McCoy: "I'm a doctor, not a physicist!"

Saeed, Those are some perfected copper bullets and brass cases, with mystery powder charges inside them for The Champions? You might consider making some aluminum bullets that weigh about 300 grains, or less than one-third the weight of the same pattern bullet in copper. Could be interesting at 3000 fps and they make some nice fireworks when they hit rocks at that speed. That is according to Rob Gunbuilder, who made a machined version of my cast lead "Darwin" slugs. His Nohbozo Darwins are copper, brass, and aluminum. His design is a modification of my cast boolit design. My design is like a flying lead beer keg, about 3.25 ounces in 30:1 (lead:tin), so it is like a 1-ounce 12ga Foster slug times 3. That makes it a "Triple Foster Darwin Slug," aka "The Natural Selector." The 12 Gauge From Hell 3.85" plus Darwin Slugs, well, that is just a "Darwin Award Winning Combination!" 3.5" 20ga RMC brass 3.5" 12ga RMC brass 3.85" 12GaFH Nohbozo brass made from blown-out 50BMG case with screwed-on rim 3.85" 12ga RMC brass You can see that I gave one end of the keg a big hollow "Cup Nose/Base," and the other a solid "Flat Nose/Base." It will fly backwards as well as forwards. FN forward, it has dart stabilization due to the CG forward shift. Massive meplat (92.5%) makes for shoulder stabilization galore. Just for reference when planning your aluminum bullets, the pictured bullets' weight/diameter/length are as follows: Rippalloy-Cast Darwin: 1377 grains/.730"/1.375" Nohbozo Copper Darwin: 1152 grains/.729/1.345" Nohbozo Brass Darwin: 1097 grains/.729"/1.345" Nohbozo Aluminum Darwin: 347 grains/.729"/1.345" Dr. Leonard H.
