Is that the same case they orginally prototyped then dropped before WW2 ended ? From an anti-tank manual I have- US Army 60 Cal(15.2 x 114) 1939- Ordinance dept called for a 60 cal gun firing a 1200 gn carbide core projectile at 3420fps.Unspecified powder charge of 522gns. penetration -1 1/4 " armour at 500 yards. Prototype was a semi auto with hotchkiss tray feed or strip feed. No sites fitted. Tested again in 1944 but never saw the war. Also try this guy who has a lot of info on big cases. http://www.quarry.nildram.co.uk/index.htm There is a photo of the case I am talking about at http://www.quarry.nildram.co.uk/ATR1.jpg Karl.

Are you thinking about using this as a hunting cartridge? Perhaps an alternative to the 600 Nitro or 600 OK? Marshall Jones

The only load data that I can find for the 60 cal. US exp. is 520-620grs of Hercules double base powder 3872.3D. This is in Ch.6 of History of Modern U.S. Military Small Arms Ammunition Vol. II Hog Killer IGNORE YOUR RIGHTS AND THEY'LL GO AWAY!!! ------------------------------------ We Band of Bubbas & STC Hunting Club, The Whomper Club

If the 14.5mm case you have is the Russian 14.5x114, the loads I found on a search is 478 gr of powder with 994 gr bullet.Didn't tell powder type, but if you get real slow surplus powder, like WC-872 and use a starting load of 90% fill you should be ok with about same bullet wt. IE; fill case to base of bullet seated, then use 90% of that for a starting load...Don't go less than 90% with slow powders. What type of action are you using this in??.Ed. MZEE WA SIKU

Thanks Ed, I appreciate the info. Do you know of any other powder types you can use? I have heard VV 20N29 may work as well as surplus 25mm and 30mm powders as well. I am loading ammo for a PTRS and PTRD rifles and dont really like to blow myself up if I can help it. Craig P.S. ED, can you please email me at: channelsurfer911@hotmail.com I would like to pick your brain as you seem to be an expert at wildcatting

I am not familiar, as far as using it, with that powder. I have seen info that it is almost as slow as WC-872. Use the recoiling barrel PTRD for load developement as it is strongest of the two. Both are, from internet stuff I have read, very strong, and would be safe for load testing.Ed. MZEE WA SIKU
