Who is hunting with or shooting a black-powder powered big bore out there? Just want to hear, whether it is a muzzleloader or a cartridge jobby. I tend to think big bores start at .58 with muzzleloaders, and over .45 with BP cartridge guns, just for discussion purposes.

I'll be antelope hunting in a week with a .45 - 2.6" Sharps. Does that qualify?

Bill, have used my 45-120 for black bears and hogs and even toted my 50-140 one time for hogs.Mostly though its then 45-120 when I break out the black powder rounds.

That's the ticket, guys. But I would be curious as well to hear from someone shooting the old British .50s, and maybe a .577 Snider or maybe a gauge gun .... Yahoo!

Bill, I shoot a .577 Snider, but you already know that and the fact that I don't like BP. I use XMP5744 the BP substitute, but that probably dosen't count.
I used my rollingblock in .45 2-4/10" for my bison in Nebraska this past February. Next such excursion, I'll blood my Sharps in .45 2-2/10". The load for the former was a 520-grain slug over a lot of black powder (I can't remember the load, but I've got it written down at home somewhere).

Wow guys, wish you could post some photos of those really big bores. Dave, is that 8-bore a Zephyr? BPBB: Be lovely to see your Jaegers (flinters? percussion?) and that 2 bore! I am missing the Kodiak .72 double I sold, and can't wait to get another.

10 Bore Paradox, underlever hammer. Never shot it. Goose this winter, turkey and pigs in the spring.
I would post pictures but don't have a digital camera. If someone around here (Sumner WA) would post a PM I could meet you at TSC and take some pics and shoot them a bit.

Boy,I hope they haven't gone out of buss.I want one of their 12 bores. From what I see in their rifles they have improved the old H&R under hammer.I bought the 8 from a buddie, was impressed with the double nipple set up,the bbl has their version of machined brake in it,and seems to work great,he had a red dot scope mounted on it,that i took off but i used the scope base to put a peep sight on it,I shoot it about twicw a month,or when ever the bp boys start talking about how much powder and power they have ,I do warn them that the load is 300 grains not 30 .Realy some thing to watch the first time they lite it off.

I came here looking for some help re the 72 K. Is it possible to load this thing up to DGR capability? I am thinking about getting one and it crossed my mind it would be great in Africa. Yea I think I would want to try it on an Eland or Zebra before a Dugaboy. I hope I am not just day dreaming.

When I was a kid, I used to hunt with a .68-caliber Swedish Elk (moose) rifle my dad has. The rifle was built in 1848, and had been rebuilt for my dad by a family friend in about 1960. Unfortunately, the load I used was fine for paper, but too light for deer (60 grains of FFg behind a patched round ball), and I ended up wounding the only deer I shot with it because the ball did not penetrate the scapula. That experience sort of soured me to hunting with a muzzleloader until I moved here to California. Now, unfortunately, the landowners where I hunt deer will not allow hunters to use a muzzleloader because of the extreme fire danger during the hunting season. However, I'm hoping to take a pig with it next spring.
