icehunter121cz 505 gibbs...help
I believe that i have read here before that the cz is available in 505, is that true? If it is available in a factory form could some one please point me in the right direction to get info on this rifle. I have been in contact with a fellow up here in canada and he believes that it is not available, and if it is he should be able to import one for me,i just gotta find out some more info.ANY help would be greatly appreciated thanks..

458WinCZ USA was showing the 550 in 505 Gibbs at the SCI and SHOT show but the ones they were showing looked to be quickly built up just for the shows. I carefully examined them, as did a number of well known gunsmiths, and all of our opinions were that productions rifles need to have a bit better quality control. The prices were around $1800 which, if you compare it to the base price of a 416 or 458 Lott is around double. I am sure CZ has a web site and Jason should be able to help you.
Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship

tiggertateAt least one poster has gotten one aleady. If you do a search there are pics. Will Canada allow the importation of a new-built gun over 50 cal?

fritz454I've got one ordered and am waiting with high anxsity for it to get here. My 404 got in about a week ago. It looks great and if the quality of the 505 is similar. It should need a bit of smoothing, bedding, new trigger and saftey. All told a 2200 dollar 505. Not too bad at all.

fritz454,
Glad to hear all was satisfactory with the .404 Jeffery.
I am anxiously awaiting the .505 Gibbs also. They have been on order for close to 3 months.
I'll send you an email at first news of any showing up, and you do the same, please.
I've got a feeling that .505 Gibbs must be the backlog of the Safari Classics. Most unusual to find a factory .505 Gibbs these days, what?

fritz454,
I am glad you like your 404. Could you compare the "fit and finish" of the 404/505s with a regular 550 Mag? I am interested in a Gibbs now that my 550 Mag project is in limbo. Are the "classics" a little higher grade than the 550 mags? Do you feel you need to reblue/refinish the rifle in addition to the basic feeding/bedding issues?

jeffeossoLMFAO!!!
read teh text, compared to "in these legendary african calibers"
i called Jason and talked with him about this a couple months ago... that calling the 450 rigby a "legendary" round was like dirty harry asking if he shot 5 or 6 rounds.. from a 5 round gun!!! (btw, clint, either way, you are empty!!)
The 450 rigby as designed/released in 1995... heck, all my kids, my car, dog, and 2 of my cats are older than that!!!

fritz454The only 550 CZ I have to compare it to is a 416 Rigby. The wood on the 404 is much better, fit is as good as any factory rifle I've seen and although I don't really like the trigger and safety they appear to function flawlessly. The safety does work the "right†way forward to fire. All in all, I'd say the extra coin is worth it. You can get the standard 550s up to snuff cheaper but I think the 404 has a far better fit and finish well as smoothness of feed and function.
I say this having only closely examined a few regular 550s and one of the safari 550. Not really a broad enough sample to say definitively.
Rip I sure will let you know when it gets here as well as post some pictures.
JKS. Why are you giving up on the 550 mag? You’ll love it.
Jeffe, Poetic license my friend. At least it wasn’t as bad a Bruce Willis in “Last Man Standing†where his 1911s were able to fire 50-80 rounds before reloading. Now that was over the top. At least for me.

John,
I think he's talking about the "cz 550 magnum action" not the "550 magnum" round..

Jeffe,

AtkinsonI almost ordered one then I remembered the recoil of the last one I had and fell to the floor crying and broke out in cold sweat, then the childrums and hornsnaggles, woke up next day and discarded the whole idea!
