I need help to decide what to choose on this to calibers. I have an Ruger #1 and I like to build one of this calibers on that, but i dont know if I shall choose 458 Lott or 500 NE 3" I have an 458WM now so maybe its better to build something in another caliber. I think its gonna to be problem to get cases and bullets to 500 NE here from Sweden. Maybe a 460 G&A is a better choice to go on.

Look at the cartridge lineup photo in the 50 Cal.lever gun topic below. Has a 500 Nitro 3-1/4" and a 458 Lott in the lineup. My vote goes to the 500 Nitro.

If I wanted a big old single shot then I go with a 577 N.E. and have a real gun...but I'm not that big on real big bores prefering a 404 Jefferys or 416 whatever....

Karl-Eric;Get a 458 Lott and if it don't have enough steam, you could rechamber to our 458 Hubel Express just by running in a reamer.Picture of cartridge is posted in thread below.Ed.

Falling blocks deserve rimmed cases. You should either poke it out to a 450 NE, or re-barrel to a 500 NE. Everything definately jumps in cost when you go from 45 to 50, and it's also harder to get ahold of the componets, but, it's worth it

Paul H--You are right about falling blocks being better with rimmed cases. Now if all of the 450 Nitro brass had good thick bases like the one brand I ended up making my wildcat from, then a 3.25 inch 450 NE rechamber job in a #1, would easily outdo Lott or Wea....But too much of the brass out there is thin headed...What I will do if my wildcat gets going is to have a rimless version. With all new Horneber thick based brass, for the power and plenty of brass strength. A couple others have suggested that also.In fact if commitment for brass is large enough, part could be rimmed and rest rimless..Ed.
